Hi Guys

Has anybody got the $9.99 plan, and been charged something like R175 for it? I just got billed R175 for that plan, and based on the current exchange rate its around $15.62 which is around R149. Am i missing something? Do the banks charge you extra somewhere?

okay this was the response i got... say what? I signed up not via any proxy etc, just as a normal sign up.

Alright, I see you were charged 10.78 USD due to taxes, this could be because the account is registering as if it had been opened in the USA. A way to change it to local pricing is to temporarily cancel the account, you'll still be able to continue watching for the month that was paid for, and then you'll just need to reopen it after the next billing date on July 1st. Still, there seems to be a little extra, so for that I'd recommend reaching out to the bank to check on the current currency exchange rate that they're using.

I know for instance FNB charges an minimum amount or extra 2% (I stand corrected on the amount) for international transactions.

What the banks offer to buy $ and what they sell it for is 2 different prices. You usually see what they buy it for, which is usually 20-50c cheaper than what they sell it to you for, so there's always a bit of a discrepancy. Also note that the current exchange rate is usually not factored into a purchase like that, they usually go by daily rates that are fixed throughout the day and may apply for yesterday still (when the exchange rate was closer to R16)

Only if you pay through EFT. That charge is waived on cheque/credit card charges etc.

yeh im on FNB.. Cool, was just surprised at this, because then its tough to say you paying $9.99 when in theory you are actually paying $11 due to additional charges by FNB

Wrong. There is a currency conversion fee.

This i suppose is what has happened, but eish thats a bummer.

Im thinking of switching to Showmax, Its getting a bit too expensive for me, especially since we hardly watch much Netflix anyway

Random Question regarding Netflix??

Just a random question, seen you have netflix now a while already. And we currently house sitting where there are netflix. But do you have a online help whereby you can decide what shows must come on? Because after the weekend we noticed that there is nothing new on Netflix that we want to watch, it is all of the series that we already watched on DSTV? Please help us out, as we trying to decide between continuing with our DSTV account or getting Netflix, but after the weekend we are so lost.

Depends on your Bank as well as the ROE at the time you are charged.
I compared my brother on FNB to mines on Standard bank and he pays more then i do.

Eish lol.. Wish we could be charged in Rands so it can be easier to know what you are paying.

that's Netflix, they show a full season of shows. most normal broadcast shows, they depending on licen show season 1 when season 2 starts. and their own shows that is released all at once.
you can search for shows they have stuff that's from back in the day to more recent their catalogue is huge so difficult to get a full list, and also being in SA MC owns the rights to alot of the shows so certain stuff because of DSTV we cant view on netflix.

Slowly that's changing as Netflix grabs the rights before MC and On their own programs i doubt they will now sell to MC.

next month will be alot higher, not sure if you are a legacy subscriber like me i was paying $7.99 next month goes up to $9.99 :wtf:
at least they kept my price down for 2 years

My legacy pricing ended last month - tbh it was the only thing that made it worth the hassles, albeit minor, of watching so I cancelled.
