Hi,

I have a netgear ADSL2+ modem/router. I recently purchased it from a pc hardware chain store after my telkom router modem was fried buy lightning. Tisk tisk.

According to the installation instructions it should be easy to install and get the bloddy thing to work i.e. 3 step setp up procedure. Connect the hardware insert the cd run the installation and wala! BUT off course this is not happening as intended.

All the lights are on except the internet light.

The router has the poer light, network light ( i.e. 1,2,3,4 for the PC network connection), there is a adsl link ight and an internet light.

The ADSL link light is on but the internet light is off. Telkom has been to the house to check the line for damage due to the lightning (as i thought that might be the reason but the line is working and the techey could connect to the internet using another device and our line.

When I run the setup program it tries to open a site "www.routerlogin.com" during installation which is obviously displayed as unavailable.

Also if i type the 192.168.0.1 as displayed underneath the router to access the router menu it doesnt og to the router login.

Please help, should I take the router back to the vendor or fix this problem.

Also the netgear was to my horror supplied with a China or japan power supply meaning it has flat slanted wall power socket pins which I now connect through a universal plug.

Model?
Is your network setup/working?
How are you connected?

Also if i type the 192.168.0.1 as displayed underneath the router to access the router menu it doesnt og to the router login.
 When you are typing this IP 192.168.0.1 in your browser URL address? What happens?

Hi

Check that your TCP/IP General Tab is set to obtain IP address Automatically.... in your Internet Connection Properties. Running XP / Vista / Windows 7 ??

1. Try putting in your ADSL username and password here...

http://192.168.0.1/BAS_basic.htm

2. This will bypass the wizard setup thing... see if the Internet light shines then... if not, you may have to manually connect here..

Click on the Connect button...

I recently purchased a NETGEAR fro TELKOM direct. It worked first time. all I had to do was put in my Sign on and Password. I however used 10.0.0.2 to the Router.

Also under TCP/IP settings, make sure your default gateway isn't 10.0.0.1 or whatever it normally is for the Telkom routers. Change this to 192.168.0.1.
Type http://192.168.0.1 into your browser. It should throw a popup window that asks for a username and password. Enter them and you should be logged into the router, upon which time you can enter your ISP login details under "Basic Settings" and set VPI and VCI under "ADSL Settings", should it be required (Which it doesn't seem to, since your router does sync).

Ditto

I also love PI'es!

I also have a Netgear router and I had to set it to ADSL and not ADSL2+ to get a connection. Maybe check that in the router's settings if you can get in.

As far as I know you must never use the netgear cd as it installs some software that overrides 192.168.0.1

To setup the modem, reset the modem, plug it in a pc, access it via 192.168.0.1 and not the cd.

Otherwise search your PC for netgear software and your registry and remove it.

Thanks for the replies peeps.

Ill give you feed back tomorrow.

Its just goes to the address unavailable screen.

Then your network link does not reach the netgear modem in the first place it seems. You have set up a network? Can you see a router under the network console?
