Hi,

I have been using the Netgear DG834GUv5 for the past two years connected to Telkom ADSL (512k). I am moving to the Douglasdale Retirement Village in 30 days where there is no chance of ADSL , and am considering the 8TA Internet 5 package. According to the spec's, this router can also be used with a 3G dongle, as it has a USB port.

Has anybody tried it?
Do I need a specific firmware version?

Any help will be appreciated..

I suggest double check, as it is not granted. It could be for different purpose, by example USB mass storage.
Assuming 3G modems are allowed, your modem must be present on the compatibility list.

Hello, you can bypass the router and use the usb dongle instead. Check to see if the area has 8 ta coverage first.

Hi there

Also - before signing up for the internet 5 package, get yourself a prepaid service to test the connectivity in the new area before committing to a contract. Once you have the SIM card, have it converted to a promo SIM card along with R40 airtime. Convert that to a 100mb bundle to test.
