After my Siemens modem got struck a couple of days ago, I went to a Telkom direct store to get it replaced and they had no stock of them. So I settled with the NetGear modem (DG834GUV5).

I must be honest I much preferred the Siemens modem.

Could any one help me with the below issues?

Every time is rains my modem disconnects, and I have t reboot it in order for it to reconnect.

1. I haven't seen this model number on the Netgear website, as I wanted to try update the firmware to see if that was the issue. I thought of download a DGTeam firmware, but also couldn't find the model number for it on their site. Has anyone installed a DGTEAM firmware?

2. Where can I check for attainable DSL rates, like I was able to see on my Siemens router?

3. I have 3 devices that connect to the router, my laptop and my 2 mobile devices. Why after some time does the connection between the mobile devices drop? It refuses to connect afterwards, and only a reboot of the router will get all 3 devices to connect successfully again!

I have one of these routers and I don't have any of these issues. Maybe a faulty router?

I also have this router, seems to be working just fine, altho my line is pretty k@k. I do however agree with point no 2. I also cant seem to find the attainable rates section. Any ideas?

I have no clue!

It's gotta do with the firmware, i've looked every where for attainable rates!

All I can get is this info:

ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 1024 kbps 448 kbps
Line Attenuation 63.5 db 31.5 db
Noise Margin 6.0 db 7 db

The only firmware I can find is here:

http://kb.netgear.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/6841

But hcom's firmware seems to be newer 6.00.26?

Hi I have never heard of DGTeam until I saw your post, I flash my dg834v2 with there rom and and it works fine :) .

I see they added the a wake on lan feature and support for no-ip, going to have a look and see what else they have done.

edit: You can also swap between modem or modem+router mode now and they have added some advanced testing features

edit2: you can now ssh in to the device, instead of telneting, and if you use telnet it ask for authentication at least

edit3: there is a SPI firewall, cant remember if this was there before, or maybe the interface just looks different now.

Awesome! Well I can't test out DGTeams firmware as they haven't released a v5 yet...

Can you view your lines attainable rate with DGTeam firmware?

EDIT: I found this but you have to resistered on the forum (invite only).

Are you using a v5 router currently? I'm thinking of flashing to the original 6.00.25 firmware from Netgear...

DGTeam don't currently have custom firmware for v5, as it uses a different chipset.

If you do flash your router to a different firmware, could u let me know how it went and it changed anything good/bad :)

Netgear DG834GUv5 works fine except for wireless which in unreliable

Hi

I have a Netgear DG834GUv5 (bought from Telkom) which works fine except for the WiFi/wireless which in unreliable. It works fine for some time after a power reset. The firmware is TKV6.00.26. Does anyone know where I can download a possible newer version of the firmware?

Telkom's support help desk, which is normally very good, is useless regarding this. I don't even think they understand what I'm asking them for. And this particular model isn't supported on the Netgear site.

Thanks
Regards
Ray

It is a stable router, however Telkom messed with the firmware, most of the issues with WiFi are resolved when AES security is selected and all logging is disabled - only use minimal services.

Reset the modem and try to make minimal changes.

Disable TR69

How do you select AES?

I've looked everywhere.

Ouch...

That is probably why it disconnects when it rains, those values are pretty low, you must be really really far from the exchange or your DSLAM port also got damaged. SNR are usually variable, and if yours drop below 6 I can promise you 99% modems out there are going to lose sync. Ive only once seen a modem sync at 5db SNR downstream and that was the Billion 7402x. That Siemans you had, probably ran a good chipset unlike most cheaper ADSL modems.

Im also having problems with this router. Telkom gave it to me to replace my siemens one, the siemens one worked fine but this one seems to lose wireless connection at random, it also keeps asking me to put in my preshare key when i connect, sometimes it just wont accept the connection and I have to wait and try the again, Then it loses connection after awhile and I have to start all over again. Also seems to dload a little slower than the other. What wirless security do you guys think I should use, seems like wpa nd wpa2 both give me this issue.

i have this router and mine works flawlessly. i dunno why you guys bash certian modems. if you have problems then the router must be faulty or your telkom line is fakked up.

Im glad your's works well, seems to be the exception though. Im not bashing it, simple fact is my siemens worked flawlessly till the lightning hit it. This one gui is ugly and I have problems with so I need to figure out how to sort out the wireless problem or see how I can get telkom to replace it cause its faulty, hopefully get a siemens then.

Hi, I see there is a new update out for these DG834GUV5 and it points to DG834GT,
Firmware Version 1.03.23 released on 09/14/2011,
going to test now...
