Netogy Nova Feedback

okay - the issue with the signal part has diminished - now it doesn't show the message but just goes into a blank screen but basically i don't need to keep rebooting the box - i just need to power off the TV and power it back on which is a lot quicker and easier - so it seems to be some type of issue between the NOVA and Hisense TV's (both myself and wernervn are experiencing the startup signal issue and we both use Hisense TV's so it seems the nexus for the issue is using the Hisense TV's with the NOVA unit

also i think that the glitchy/juddery playback issue is easy to trace to switching off Hardware Acceleration - in the past with KODI when you had Juddery playback they suggested to swith off Hardware Acceleration in the settings and i have done this last night while i went through every setting in KODI to see what i could enable or disable to match my previous settings in all my other devices where i use KODI ..... will test by watching some content over the next few days - if that solves the juddery playback with the occasional freezing and faulty colors appearing all over the screen then i think i have solved the issues i was experiencing to a level that i could live with - i mean rebooting the TV instead of the box is a whole lot quicker and if i could watch an episode of a TV series or a movie with zero glitching or juddering then it's good enough for me

and yes having the thing just switching on and just playing stuff perfectly would be infinitely better than having these issues but i'm kind of used to having some problem or the other in everything i own - i mean KODI doesnt even work perfectly on PCs - ie shutting KODI down is problematic on my PC and giving it a shut down command brings up an error message asking if i want to close the program or wait for it to respond ..... however i'm now so used to KODI and the fact that it works well enough 9% of the time when the settings are adjusted correctly that i live with it's few idiosyncrasies - just need to make sure that these files don't glitch/judder anymore

EDIT : and i forgot to point out that if the glitching/judder is a thing of the past that is more a KODI thing than a NOVA thing

just another thing - I've switched off all image processing "features" on my Hisense TV after reading about other users getting glitches with this on in the Hisense thread.

I do not use Vidaa OS at all for anything except the occasional firmware update, effectively making my TV a dumb panel. Smartness sits with the Nova's Android TV, and all sound is routed via my Yamaha AV receiver.

With all those TV settings disabled I've experienced no glitches.

PS. I use Emby (server running on old PC on my home network) iso Kodi. Its brilliant and I can recommend it. I also have Kodi running on a Raspberry Pi, but for playing around with, not serious watching.

okay - my "hardware acceleration" experiment has ended in failure - 4k video stops playing smoothly if you disable it - but its only a few files that play badly when its enabled and most of those are 1080p anyway - so if i encounter it - i can switch off hardware acceleration for those files and re-enable it to play 4k video

funny thing is that everything plays absolutely perfect on my laptop with no extra graphics but just the on-chip graphics of the 8th gen CPU

Woke up this morning & found Netogy in a boot loop.
Goes up until Android logo then reboots.

Guys, is it me or does the sound quality of the Explora Ultra better than the sound quality of the NOVA Netogy?

The file they put out for streaming, is not the identical to the one they stream hia sattellite?
Even the sound from other apps e.g Netflix, it's waaaaay better on the Ultra than the NOVA Netogy. Why is that? The sound on all the apps just a bit low for me.

its obvious that the audio hardware on both those devices is different - unless you are getting the audio from HDMI on both devices connected to an AVR - in which case its probable that they just have the audio setup in the ultra decoder to play louder in which case most people will feel it is better

also- have you checked what the volume setting is on the Nova? I really can't check whether what you say is true or whether it can be fixed because i don't have any DSTV decoders anymore - and i never had the Explora ultra decoder

Does this have to do with gain ( volume ) or other change in audio.
