Netogy Nova Feedback

Has anyone managed to sideload apps on the device? I put an APK file on a USB drive (FAT32) and my Nvidia Shield could pick it up and install via X-Plore file manager, but the Netogy did not even display the APK file on the USB drive.
 
Does this unit support ARC on a Samsung TV, i.e. can the box be controlled with the Samsung tv remote?

I'd say it's mutual, the Nova can turn the TV on and switch it to the correct input but the TV can also switch the Nova on by changing to that input but to answer the original question, yes the Nova can be controlled using your TV remote

the Mecool KM2 which is a rebadging of the Skyworth Leap unit has one - not sure if the Skyworth does but i have a Mecool KM2 and it definitely does have optical out which they call SPDIF (incorrectly as it seems) and the Mecool also has an AV out too
 
having a bit of a problem with my Nova though - it is faster when it works but sometimes it has a problem to boot up - all i see is a black screen for a long time and sometimes it says weak or no signal and i need to check the connection then on the next reboot it works - so it is irritating that it doesnt go on properly all the time

also when playing from a portable hard drive - most of my files worked in test mode ie playing 5 minutes at a time - but once or twice when trying to watch a complete TV program or movie after around half an hour i get some glitching and freezing and weird color effects on the screen while the audio continues playing - should i continue to experiment or take it back to Makro for an RMA

maybe i will just try other files for a day or two and see whether its actually one or two faulty files - but the starting up issue is concerning - if that carries on then its going to make living with the unit really sad

Actually have been seeing that signal issue as well :-(

Yeah it doesn't happen often on the Nova but it does happen, strangely it also happens on the Mi TV stick 4, but not the mi boxes.

I've also experienced the same startup issue. Startup happens vis CEC from Hisense TV and Yamaha AV receiver. Not sure what would cause it, but I use the device every day, and it's only happened once or twice so far.

i have only had the device for around three days but it has happened like 7 or 8 times during setup - i wonder if it could be an issue with the Hisense TV and the Nova - also initially on first one or two times while i was setting up i used my aftermarket HDMI cable - and it worked ..... not totally without issues but it did work - then i was having these issues all the time and thereafter i reckoned it was time to try the HDMI cable packed in the box with the unit and that did improve matters but still having those issues now and then - still gonna check for a day or two more to see if this settles down and startup becomes normal before i go all drastic and take it back to Makro - and try a few more videos to see if the other files play faulty or if most play okay
