Netogy Nova Feedback

If a device has a feature such as atmos, i find it odd that they don't advertise it.

The fact that a specific input such as a streaming app doesn't support it should be irrelevant. Netogy would be paying a license fee to have atmos.
Still odd to me

actually replying to all the posts regarding Atmos i dont want to be funny but a single speaker saying Atmos is about as useful as those ar5ehole phones that say Atmos - and yes there are tmes when the that single speaker can simulate being multiple speakers because of the soundstage it can throw but Atmos on these single speaker thingies and phones etc is just a buzzword and marketing gimmick because its just calling something a fancy name that it can't really actually successfully do all the time - to me its bullshit for a soundbar or phone or any single speaker thing to use the term Atmos because real Atmos is at a minimum a 5.1.2 speaker solution ie 5 speakers at ear height or just above with one subwoofer and 2 speakers at ceiling level - the other stuff is all pseudo Atmos and IMHO total bullshit - in fact to me PROPER Atmos is going to be a minumum of actually a 7.1.4 speaker setup but in a small room a 5.1.2 CAN suffice - the single speaker crap is all nonsense ie its like baking a cake and having someone take a photograph and printing that and then you print a black and white photocopy of the photo - it doesnt tell you how its going to taste

so really i will never buy anything that makes false claims like a soundbar saying Atmos because most of them wont even have a good enough 5.1 simulated surround effect leave alone being able to simulate a 360 degree spherical soundfield that PROPER Atmos is supposed to convey - its all just buzzwords and selling tactics and these guys give it a fancy name but its nowhere near the REAL thing

so if all you have is a soundbar then expect it to play just like any other soundbar, and it isnt going to be some spectacular audio sensation like you heard in someones 7.2.4 actual Atmos setup in their multimillion rand home threater setup

the only people who need to bother with Atmos really being output from any device are the guys with big multiple speaker setups and proper Audio/Video recievers that claim actual Atmos output and have between 9 to 12 channels of output - for the guys with Soundbars you need to realize that for you its just a marketing thing that manufacturers are claiming to make you buy stuff

So he didn’t say anything about the quality. Not a single thing.

He’s saying his soundbar is indicating it’s decoding an Atmos signal from a Netogy Nova - which is exactly what this thread is about.

and the point i'm trying to make is that the soundbar can indicate that its Dolby Atmos BUT he wont be hearing it as True Atmos anyway so why is it a concern - only the people with actual Atmos AVRs and multiple speaker setups are going to experience proper Atmos anyway - the guy with the soundbars are not going to experience anything close to it .... so all the arguing about it is moot IMHO

and if it gives the guys with big multi speaker sytems Atmos without claiming it, then it should be treated as a bonus

… and that means he is getting a Dolby Atmos signal from a Netogy Nova.

Oh I no longer work for Nology. I moved to the UK at the start of the year.
 
So I have the Nova, LG CX and Samsung HW-Q600C soundbar.

Nova is running Kodi + Seren + RD
Q600C connected on eARC (HDMI 2)
Nova connected to TV via HDMI 1 (PS5 and DStv on HDMI 3 & 4)

Will the 4K 5.1/DTS/Atmos/Surround content that is served by Kodi+Seren get to the soundbar?

Is there any test content that I can try? (I don’t have any Netflix, AppleTV, etc subs).
 
Has anybody streamed any IPTV services with this box, specially 4k live sports streaming? I know that IPTV is a hit or a miss. Currently I'm using 2 tv boxes for IPTV streaming, the Mecool km2 and the Netogy Nova. I was sure that the Netogy Nova with the AV1 codec would outperform the Mecool box but it seems that the Netogy Nova is struggling to stream IPTV services. Is there anything I need to change on the Netogy Nova settings to improve anything. What does the AV1 codec really do to that has got an advantage over other devices?
Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

I’ll answer the second part :

AV1 is a compression algorithm that essentially means a 30% reduction in bandwidth. For you, that’s great when it comes to slower or metered connections as you can essentially stream a 4K some off something like 10Mbps. Also, the file starts quicker as there is less to buffer before it starts.

One other thing is the provider could increase quality at the same tier (instead of reducing) to get closer to real BluRay quality.

For them, it’s less file size on the servers

And is only a benefit to you when the streaming service you are using streams content that is in AV1 format.

Yup - Netflix and YouTube are mostly there. Not sure who else - but I’m sure I read that Disney has or will have

They will all eventually get there, just a matter of time - even on the torrent sites, AV1 files are starting to appear. But there is a massive library of content out there, that is basically just too much trouble or not cost effective to have in AV1 format.
 
For 4k content I can only see the better quality on Youtube. Most iptv services is only 1080p.on my IPTV service i only found 2 channels that was streaming 4k.

I'm sure all these 4k channels are in 1080p at a very good fps. Not real 4k channels. But the picture quality is really good. I'm just disappointed that I'm having these issues with the buffering. And thought that the Netogy Nova box would make a difference. But IPTV services are like this. It works or its broken. I just have to stick with the lower end quality streaming.
 
1080p 60 FPS strems are more bandwidth intensive than 1080p 30 FPS streams.

I agree, that if you can get these the picture quality and stability is very very good.
 
I see everyone is saying that 5.1 audio is no problem for the Nova, but I'm struggling to get this to work. I have an old Denon connected to the TV via SPDIF (optical). If I play any Dolby test files via the TV via USB (old Samsung Smart), the AVR changes to Dolby Digital and 5.1 works, however if I play the same files via the Nova, the AVR stays in PLC II mode. Tried with Kodi and VLC. Not sure if I am missing something?
