Hey everybody.

Earlier this year I posted a thread after I discovered Symantec was killing support for the Corporate Edition 9. I got some ideas from the response to that thread.

I found out that both AVG and ESET have local distributors and support. Both are good systems, and I know that NOD32 is highly commended here.

Between the 2, which do you guys recommend we look further into? Both seem to have similar features, but NOD's updates are very small apparently, and the speed is superior to most others.

I'm open to other anti-virus vendors, but they must have a central management console, and be able to support our older very limited Pentium 3's.

Thanks for the help in advance :)

So far +2 for NOD then. I am having a meeting tomorrow with the new bursar, and we talking computer stuff. So I think I'll recommend we get NOD. It wasn't budgeted for, but we have no choice really.

Thanks guys

Is it for a School/Educational Institution and is it for 5 or more PC's??

@ mh348

Yeah, it is a school, a private school that has now reached the limit of about 310 pupils. Computer wise we are coming up on 90 networked computers, I've left a few in there for growth purposes.

I'm meeting the bursar tomorrow sometime, and I'll make a point of stressing it. We cannot afford to run without protection.

One thing I've noticed through. The "real" destructive virii and so on have all but vanished. No Chernobyl or FunLove or other bundles of fun. Seems to be all about worms and phishing and spyware these days.

If you decide to take NOD32 you'll get a 50% discount since it's for an educational institution,

You betcha it's wyrms these days. It's school holidays bu I have to go in tomorrow to overhaul our five admin computers because they've been infected with a wyrm despite having an up-to-date AVG system.

I don't know NOD32, but I feel like exploring their capabilities a bit if they have a limited free version available.

@ Asha'man

What do you do at your school? Are you only sysadmin or are you also the IT teacher?

I Can give you a 60 day evaluation key to try it out.

I'm most impressed with Eset here in Cape Town.

Fired off an e-mail this morning asking about pricing, and a guy called me from the place, and we chatted about various options and so on. As I'm writing this the pro-forma quotes came in, let me take a look quick.....

:eek::eek::eek: What good pricing! Even before the academic license it's good, but this is amazing! The 2 year plan for the school is just over what AVG would cost for 1 year. And with NOD I get the Exchange Server protection too. Wow!

I know which one I'll be selling hard to my boss :D

@ Picard

I'm the guy that does IT, Telephones, copiers/printers, almost everything software and hardware related. Luckily I don't teach, actually I can't teach lol.

And while the public schools are still on holiday, we are back in the term already. We get longer June/July break though
