NATIONAL telecommunications operator Neotel has had its R230m acquisition of Transtel approved by the Competition Tribunal, giving it 550 more staff and valuable networking facilities.

i must say driving between Sandton and Soweto I've seen a lot of Neotel contractors laying that cable which give me hope that we might see the cheap and higher speed broadband connection soon.

I think this is great news. Building up a telecoms company cannot be easy, and there is so much that needs to done before you can launch to consumers. I hope that this acquisition helps them grow and move faster.

I think we sometimes forget just how huge a job it must be, and they didn't help themselves by making promises they could not keep.

Not quite

Last count, NeoTel had over 200 employees, and that was about 6+ months ago, so I'm sure it has grown a bit since then.

Actually a bunch of Telkom employees jumped ship in favour of Neotel...so its more than 20.

Only been "approved" now? AFAIK, Transtel was acquired by the "SNO" years ago.
