Free network PDF printer required...with client-side options...

Hi all,

I've been trawling Google for hours and have worked through a number of apps already...

I've been put in charge of finding a network PDF printer, but, the boss wants client-side options.

So far, I've found PDF Creator to be a great tool, but in network mode, you need to set the options on the server and every client printing to the server is then tied into those options.

What I'm looking for is an app' that prompts for all of the usual PDF options when you hit the print button...

Do any of you have any suggestions, please?

Thank you.

Ah - I feel for you. Lots of wants, very little budget. You're kinda between a rock and a hard place.

Thanks for the sympathy. I'm trying to get that message across to the powers that be, but I'm on the bottom rung and the ****'s raining down from all levels. :|

@Merlin could you mention the programs that you've tested? It will prevent recommendations that is not suitable for your needs.

Thanks ITCynic.

LaraC,

I've had a look at PDF Creator, Primo and BullZip. I've read up on Distiller, NovaPDF, BioPDF and some German app' (website was all in German).

Currently installed PDF24 Creator and will take a look at CutePDF in a moment. :)

CutePDF is great...

"CutePDF Writer does not support network printer sharing or mapping." :)

Having looked at about a dozen apps now, I'm going to report back to management that their existing requirements are unable to be met. We either need to get Development involved or relax the purse strings.

Thank you, everyone.

You are quite right.

Even a network printer requires drivers loaded on the local machine.

CutePDF is a PDF driver so I dont see the angst.

I'm not sure how they expect a driver install on a client-side machine to offer up an options panel... *sigh* The life of a techie...

Indeed, only thing a network printer might have benefit is a central queue?

Install CutePDF on client computers and set it to save to a network shared folder that exists on the client computer.

They're trying to simplify things, to the extent where they simply add a network printer.

I'm trying to figure out how to translate 'IT' into English now... *sigh*
