Has anyone here ever had the following situation:

Two laptops (One Dell D610 and one Dell D630)

Network point A and Network point B (NB!! same floor, same network, same switch same config!!)

Both laptops are configured 100% exactly the same.

The D630 does not work in network point A (sends but does not receive)
The D610 works perfectly in network point A
The D630 works perfectly in network point B
The D610 works perfectly in network point B

All configured for DHCP but changing to static does not fix. I have the gut feeling this is hardware related somehow but not sure :/

Perhaps you have Mac address filtering enabled ?

Go to http://www.klcconsulting.net/smac/ and get SMAC. Change the mac of D630 to the mac of D610 and try.

To get mac address:
1) Open command prompt
2)
Code:
ipconfig /all
3) Look for Physical address or something similar to that. Should be a bunch of Hex values.

Also, you say it sends but does not receive. Is the D630 being assigned an IP address? To force a renewal of IP address, open a command prompt and type
Code:
ipconfig /renew

Tried that :) tried a lot of things except the MAC address filtering but would that not be affected throughout the LAN and not only one port? :/ :(

This is so weird. This is twilight zone of PC's

Not necessarily. It depends on your hardware.

Some NICs are more tolerant of cable faults than others. Do the notebooks use the same NIC hardware?

Hmmm well I just recently found out that an electrician apparently fondled with the network points as well to make way for some plugs :/

No errors on switch. These points were recently installed..no more than 4 months ago and give no problems.

If and when I get my hands on someone elses Dell D630 I will test that as well. I don't know how different they are to the Dell D610 with the NIC.

I just asked our network admin and apparently there is no MAC address filtering on any of our switches.

Thanks for comments so far all :)

Bizarre, but does sound like a cable fault. Try checking the jacks on fly leads and so on to make sure everything ok there. Check the wall mount box to make sure all the cables are punched down ok.

It's bizarre that it can only send and not receive, which points you somewhere at least.

Maybe try messing with the Duplex modes in device manager for the NIC

Same here - might not be punched in properly.

Have you also forced the NIC's down to a lower speed and see if that helps?
