Network problems

Now that we know it was a worker cutting fibre cables with a spade, will you hate-filled venom-spitters take back your blame of Telkom or Vodacom or whoever you think is responsible? A single fibre cable carries hundred of gigabits of traffic so like was already mentioned, the re-routed traffic will saturate the alternate routes.

These contractors need to be more careful with their digging.

You shouldn't blame a front end loader for an excavator or TLB's mistake.

Not necessarily, if it is set up with proper redundancy, and a ring structure. For a single spade to be able to yank down half the local internet in the whole friggin country is an indication of extreme incompetence in network design.

I called Vodacom twice - only after the second call did I receive any feedback. I was told that Vodacom was not aware of any problems on their network....

Connection in Cape Town

Hi guys,

I still seem to be struggling to connect to some international sites.
Has this problem been fixed?
Could the Capetonians confirm whether or not they're still having internet connection problems?
