In our constant quest to improve our service to our customers, Vodacom will be upgrading its network in the Gauteng area. This network upgrade also forms part of Vodacom's preparation for 2010 and to put in place the latest technology platform. We are doing our very best to prevent any interruption in service while we upgrade, but please bear with us as we bring you a better network.

To see a schedule of where and when network upgrades will be taking place in Gauteng; please click on the drop down list below. This schedule will be updated weekly. You can also call 111, free from a Vodacom cellphone, 082 111 from any other phone or send an email to [email protected], for more information.

When there upgrades be taking place in cities other than the WELL UPGRADED Gauteng. Why not try upgrading in places that need upgrades? :(

Getting horrible speed since yesterday, wonder if it is related to this...

And this is at its best!

What disturbs me is why must GPRS & EDGE users pay the same price per bundle as 3G when we get a very sloooooooooooooooooow connection, Yes I know that we also use the same data as 3G users BUT GPRS, EDGE 3G also use the same as HSDPA ect(HSDPA users pay a lot more than GPRS, EDGE and 3G SO GPRS users should pay a lot less than 3G users) Because we cant stream Youtube videos, Online gaming, and it take 2hours to download my video card drivers.

Telkom has this R150.00 for 150 hours (NOT BANDWIDTH) ON DIALUP AND IT IS THE SAME SPEED THAT I HAVE NOW BUT MUCH CHEAPER (dam Caps) That I will be looking into.

Then VODACOM NETWORK UPGRADES WILL BE TAKING PLACE IN GAUTENG
So that means CAPE TOWN is next Then DURBAN and maybe BLOEMFONTEIN
And then, They will say they are out of money and then the rest of South Africa sits with a Tub of Vaseline! and hoping that just maybe one day that Vodacom will upgrade there base station.

 how is it that you get more latency on local then on int?

I have always had that int latency is much less than local even if i do a local and int speed test, my int is much faster than local.:)

Don't know if their "upgrading" is messing us all around, but my HSDPA connection is useless currently. 286kbps down, and 49 kbps up ... I used to average 2mbps down, and 1mbps up ... from the same location. I am not a happy camper

Was having some issues last night again as well, but there isn't anything scheduled in my area. I wonder if there is maybe "extra strain" for the rest of the network when the upgrades take place... :D

Its the 2nd September.
I know upgrades are taking place in area but just wanted to post my problem in case it
doesnt have anything to do with upgrades.

My problem is that my connection cannot stay alive for more than 5min , it just randomly disconnects after 1 - 5min?

I thought maybe its a problem with my modem?

thanks
wez

Arnt the upgrades suppose to be finished today? Cos my problem still happening

So I've seen improvement recently. And I've asked a few friends in and around Pretoria as well and they said they have also seen improvements in the last week. Signal levels are a little better and speeds have increased quite nicely.

I've had absolutely pathetic Vodacom 3G service since thursday last week (14th). Spent about an hour on the phone with their helpdesk (after getting through about 9 menu options to speak to someone...) and they can't help me. They have no idea why it isnt working. My area is not listed as an area being upgraded. (This is in Boksburg, not even 4km from the East Rand Mall)

All http traffic seems useless. Any web sites I try visit time out, one loads here and there, but try refresh and it times out. (except for Vodacom's site, which works perfectly fine).

Oh and get this, the helpdesk agent tests a few of the site I'm having issues with, and they all work fine - he tells me he's on a Telkom ADSL, fantastic.

Strange thing is, Remote desktop to servers in the US works fine, SQL db connections on port 1433 are fast, email works fine... just http is timing out all the time.

It got to the point where I simply could not work, and went to visit MTN to get a sim card and data bundle, but they were offline the whole weekend and could not do anything for me. The guy at MTN told me that all MTN branches in Gauteng East were offline.

I can't get ADSL, as Telkom tells me cable theft is too high in the area, and they can't give me WiMax, iBurst can't be bothered to respond to my queries, Neotel has zero coverage (but they will happily let me sign a 2yr contract for a data card I can't use)...

Internet in this country is a joke and "serivce" providers provide no actual service... I give up :'(

Will this solve the absolutely shoody speeds we've been experiencing the last few weeks?

Friday 02 October 2009 and I got no 3G/HDSPA coverage on Vodacom. It's been going on for hours and I don't know what to do.

P.S. I got a 3g/HSDPA modem 3.6Mbps capable.

Help please

You could have fooled the hell out of me!! The only thing that is constant is rubbish service delivery!!

I doubt many companies will be able to support the 2010WC!! They are all jumping on the band wagon but none of them can play an instrument!!

Beaten!! and this works on the MTN network with my work 3G.

Are you just going to post randomly all over the place or are you actually going to get your details together and pass them to VodacomData so he can help you?

So far you have a incomplete post in the network problems thread and complaints here and in another posters thread none of which are going any way towards helping you solve your problem.

Well then stick to your MTN 3G. You seem like more of a "sit back and complain" type than actually bringing your side to solve anything.

Yeah J0n0 - you are pretty intelligent but not to the point where you would have deduced that I tested it with MTN 3G and don't use it for personal use "my work 3G" - some may because the "company" pays.

Tell me which tower to sort out and let's see what i can arrange ;)

Done - not mentioning email sent around 3 weeks ago.

Yeah there you are correct - but incomplete as in? i didn't put my cell number up etc? Consider the frustration factor being between 1-10 and put this on around 35. Kinda makes sense to do what one can when one has already invested numerous thousands into an internet connection or ISP and service goes downhill and then does not improve even after a month - surely someone must know SOMETHING has change HUH? Don't YOU think? Not logical?

I am sure you would appreciate that? Yes? No?
