Network Woes During Load Shedding

Yip, telkom completely crap itself every time we have LS.

For the first time in a long time my internet went down towards the end of load shedding... Concerning hopefully a once off thing.

Mine works fine. The signal fluctuates by one bar. The tower might have a generator.

Today it was after power cuts.
I recently and today experienced something never before like this, no internet, but router is synced and logged in to ISP, nothing.......Then I change the DNS to default in Router and I can access some SA sites and UK sites and some other .COM sites, but mostly no internet. Then after a couple of hours it clears.

I also experienced from Vodacom SMS's take hours to arrive, so I cannot use random pin activation, it expires before I can use it. This started some weeks ago. SMSes from wife is instant.
Wifi calling enabled by any chance? I narrowed down a similar problem to that on CellC , could be a similar glitch on Vodacom
Some automated SMS like OTP etc would just never arrive

Most areas will be running on mtn towers soon, mtn has good backup batteries unless they have been stolen
So things should be better moving forward? My expectations are low, even 3G would be good for me on mobile during load shedding.

Yes what would need to do check if mtn works during load shedding. But just remember cellc users get throttled on the mtn towers, but still be better than what you currently getting.

MTN in in Margate, Uvongo and Shelly Beach os hopeless. Power goes off then it's no service directly after the power goes off.

Only vodacom stays on for like 1 hour then drops to 3G for 30min then to 2G and then no coverage.

My MTN fixed LTE is still not working after power cut. The router gives 5 full bars, but says disconnected i.e it connects to tower but no internet access from there!

Never had a problem in my previous house, but since moving am having endless issues every time there's power cuts.
No one knows why, logging a fault via Afrihost to MTN you never get any feedback, so could be down for hours or days.

If this continues I'll just move to Telkom, at least the local tower is up during LS and never has reconnection problems after power is back on.

Meanwhile I'm using Vodacom mobile data which is priced exorbitantly...

I'm on MTN. When loadshedding starts I have to use my phone to create a hotspot to be able to keep on working, However MTN's data throughput dies the minute the power goes off. You can't even open the Google search home page.

I'm not in the sticks, I live in Durbanville. Vodacom seems to be okay.

Is there any use attempting to contact MTN to complain about this?

Continuing with my ongoing issue I mentioned 2 posts previously yesterday, has anyone had similar issue and managed to resolve?
Afrihost aren't any help, as problem lies with MTN tower I'm connected to most likely:

My local MTN tower seems to route all traffic to a tower in another area.
Whenever I am being LS, local tower is down and I have 0 signal, can't even make emergency calls.
When next town is being LS, remote tower is down, I get full signal but just says "disconnected" like the above image from MirageF1.

LS blocks are 2 and a half hours long - at stage 4, that's 3x a day, my tower is off for 7 and a half hours, remote tower is off for 7 and a half hours in the blocks before mine, that's 15 hours a day without connectivity.

Vodacom/Telkom dont have signal anyway lmao.

Definitely gonna go through with pulling the trigger on satellite internet - latency will be awful but at least I'll be connected.

I have no signal on any network when loadshedding starts. My fibre at home doesn't have backup either.

My company already said people will have to go back to the office (or some office with back up power) if this continues because a lot of my colleagues have this issue.

It makes communication incredibly difficult if one doesn't know whether your colleagues are just plain ignoring your Teams calls and emails or if they're having loadshedding.

mtn is furked lately

for the 1st time during loadshedding i couldnt get any mtn network and caused krap for work

can anyone tell me if you add a UPS can you connect your fibre ONT thing and the modem as well

cause its 2 sources

Got a secondary phone on MTN and I’m very happy at how good MTN is in my area even during load shedding. Those EDGE days with Cell C are over.
