Or if I can get in trouble for not renewing it all these years? I really need to renew for a new job I got my boss said I need a valid license as I will be doing a lot of driving for the job.

this is south Africa, where taxis drive around with fist sized rust holes,
and people who can barely count to 10 are President.
just take it to the license department you originally did it, and renew,
sure you will pay a fine, but then it will get renewed.

It does happen, I was last stopped 9 years ago.
Back at OP, book your card renewal, get a temp and you'll be fine. Do it now like as we speak
