New 1 series - Thoughts?

Its not bad. . . Would need to grow on me I think. Not sure whats going on in the rear though? :wtf:

Can't think of any decent 4 cylinder beemer... They don't fall in the sheer driving pleasure slogan.

Lol almost perfect example!
While the E30 M3 setup and looks and perhaps pedigree was there. The 325is is the better performance car. Many would agree with me, many won't.
But to stay on topic, an 18 year old BM was the best 4cylinder they could have made. I'm sure the Mini Cooper comments will follow soon.
But when it comes to 4cylinder cars, BMW don't stand much of a chance in this segment.
But anyhow, this car is aimed at the aspiring types, a badge. There are much better cars out there.

Look - I'm not a fan of a BMW and even less of the 1 Series, but the BMW is in a different league to a PGTI - even a BMW 116i ;) Where are VW on the JD Powers index anyway? Improved from below average?

Just walk into a BMW showroom and a VW showroom and you'll pick up which is the classier car.

Yes but we're not talking about showrooms, or who generally makes the better car. We're talking about the base model 116i, which costs as much as it does purely because of the badge, and nothing else. There are better cars out there for the price. Heck take your pick from a Golf, A3, Astra, Focus or anything else in the same segment.

Golf - yes. Polo?!

What if VW decide to bring the Lupo here with a 3.2 engine that costs similar to the 116i. Would quality still be the same?

VW in general have suffered issues with quality.

In general, the brand is worse than BMW for quality.

While I agree with Golf should be (and probably is many aspects) as the same catagory - the Polo isn't ... even with a nice engine. IN JD Powers surveys they've most been below average.

Hell, we had numerous in our family that all gave issues at one stage. Thank goodness they've all gone ...

You saying that this 1 series is classier than the new Polo Gti?
How so?

The Polo is better looking than this BM right?
It won car of the year right?
Its faster and better on fuel right?

I havent seen the interior of the BM, but if it is the normal BM interior and a bottom of the range, I know the Polo is miles better in terms of look feel and design.

Still a VW though, but then again so is an Audi and a Bentley.

I exclude your Polo JK8 Edition which - apart from being blistering quick - has an interior to put Bentlys to shame :/ I'm talking about the normal Polo GTI

It's simply be unfair to compare in JK8 Edition VW to anything else?

So my initial view stands - it's Polo and it's a BMW. If *I* had only those two cars to chose, I'd get the Polo over and over again without doubt. BMWs don't appeal to me ... but quality/class wise they are different leagues.

You can see the quality lacking on the JDPowers review for the past few years.
