Hi

I changed sim cards on my E220 and now I cannot get my IE or Outlook to connect. The sim works as I can send sms to and from laptop with it connected. After entering my PIN it connects and I get 4 bars (out of 5) for 3G reception. I am in East London.

Phoned VC support twice and they helped me to flush the dns and told me to upgrade the E220 software which I did but still have the same problem. They have now "escalated" my query...

I have a 40MB Data Messenger contract. Previously had a MyMeg500 which I cancelled.

Anybody have any advice? Please? I'm lost here.

I wouldn't know - guess it should be. 64K SIM I got when I signed up for the 40MB Data Messenger (No voice) contract?

Don't take it for granted, one of the guys at work took out a 1gig data contract and the sim was not data enabled.

you might need to put this string in under internet options:
at+cgdcont=1,,"internet"

as i said MIGHT..depends what phone etc
will only work if connecting to internet thru phone..with ur pc. If you cant even connect to ur phone web then i would say get the settings.

I think its safe to assume that he is using a 3G Modem as his connecting device, and not a Cell Phone :)

What you can do though, is to go into Device Manager, open up the Advanced Settings for the 3G Modem and remove the Extra Initialization String.

What i'm thinking now(which i have experienced before) is where the string is already set, and the software tries to re-set it again, but actually ends up concatenating the 2 strings, which ultimately leads to an invalid APN settings.

Once i removed the entry, and dialed up using the software, it worked. So try that.

But just to get some clarity(as i experience some ambiguity in your initial post), are you able to get online and cannot browse and receive emails, or are you NOT able to get online at all?

PROBLEM SOLVED!!!

Thanks for all the help. I did everything suggested up here BUT I have to say with a red face: The DAMN Zone Alarm blocked the Internet and Outlook. Only realised this when Zone Alarm asked for permission to allow the E220 to connect to the internet... Maybe one day I will understand these things...
