sorry man - no bad intentions there...i'll edit and quote your post..sorry again.

its cool no worries mate:cool:
but just wish someone would sticky that Post getting tired answering questions bout SNR and Attenuation

dropping my sync to 1meg solved my problem. the line is up and running now for about 4h and 53 minutes without dropping once.

thank you telkom technical support guys for taking 2 weeks trying to solve my problem and making me discover the solution on a local forum....

thanx guys for your help

Let me be the 1st n00b and ask where the hell I can find my routers SNR and Attenuation rates.

I have a Netgear DG834G V2, got it yesterday so bear with me, lol

Looked through everything but cant seem to spot it

EDIT: NVM, was just being a retard, found it.

Applied for a 4mb line, it dropped continuously so dropped it to 3, still an issue, then to 2, and now on 1mb

Here are my stats:

ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 1024 kbps 512 kbps
Line Attenuation 57 db 15.5 db
Noise Margin 3 db 12 db

So I suppose with stats like these I can be happy with a 1mb line

This is in Sunningdale Cape town

Played around a bit and got the Noise up to 19db but it bounces up and down between 19 and 3, does that mean the copper in my area is screwd?

dude its you from ps3za !!!! whats up boet ??

lol yea, its me, doubt 2 people would have a nick like mine lol

Whats your nick on PS3ZA? Jizzims isn't ringing a bell

But yea, not to hijack. I logged a fault with Telkom last night, hope they can send someone to check out my copper or poll connections, they probably wont, but I intend on phoning and emailing every day for the next month untill someone comes out

Well sorry to bring this back from the dead but I have the same problem.

I upgraded my line from 384 to 4meg and had no issues for the first month or so. Now for the past month and a half I am getting line drops. I tried dropping it from 4 -3 and 3-2 and 2-1 but no joy. When it gets to 7pm or 8pm I start getting line drops. During the day it will drop between 8 and 10 times (according to Telkom) but at night it drops every 5-10 minutes while underload from me.

Either work or Darkfall puts it underload and then I am dropped repeatedly until I go to bed......probably still drops when I am in bed but Iam not there to check so don't know :).

Well Telkom and I are on our 6th call logged and on Sunday I finally got a guy out. They have tested the line and there is no fault and no noise, I am within 2.5kms from the exchange and it works like a dream according to Telkom. They plugged there "test" router in and they got 4megs no problem.

So we plugged my Linksys WAG200g in and bang down to 3megs and line dropping. They have decided it is my router. I am of the belief that it is the exchange AND (maybe) my router. Any ideas?

My Attenuation is always at 44 but I cannot remember what my SNR is at work. Will check later.

you have a bad conection between your house and the exchange the normal tests can not detect this so you have to ask for the adsl specialist on 2.5km you should have a reading of 34 and 17 on a copper line and higher on fiber on a 4meg line

Request Telkom to perform a line test, NB not an ADSL test. Suspect induction noise, noise which causes DSL traffic interference affecting speed of transfer with an ultimate drop of link to re-authenticate. PM ur tel num, will get test results returned to u where possible, contacts

here's a new one for you:

I've had my new 4MB line tested with no faults from Telkom's side.

I am currently connected(For 5 days now with no issues).

Here is the problem:

My router(replacement) will not sync unless I'm phoned in to 0800375375(I don't even tell the consultant why I'm phoning) and it comes up.

I only follow these steps or it won't work:

Phone 0800375375
Get throught to consultant(talk about whatever)
Reset router
Talk some more crap
Light comes on
Talk some more crap
Enter account details in router
Thank consultant
End call

:)

Had this problem to, my problem wasn't with my my line but with the modem. exchange it and no dropping for 8months now. Billion was a fail tbh
