New ADSL caps and pricing

welcome to the telkom big squeeze, where you get squeezed and they get the moola, WTFWTFWTFWTF!!!!!!!

Last time i squeezed an orange some pieces of it fell off into the bowl, not the juice, but pieces, so are some of us gonna leave this great squeeze??????

F**K telkom's line rental, I bloody hell don't want to use their lines, just an ADSL line with VoIP is enough, and now we're forced to pay R131 per month for a piece of copper cables??????? pretty sure telkom can buy like 10 pieces of that a year with this pricing (R1572 pa) gosh, maybe next time when my line fails I should "deduct" rentals from telkom. Or to make our line rentals worthwhile, lets all begin stealing our own cables, so all I need now is a channel to sell my copper cables, so if any1 knows please provide.

Like I said in a previous thread, people whine and moan about Telkom and their prices, yet they keep using them. If you are willing to keep feeding the beast, then shut the hell up about the prices and quit moaning. if you want to moan about prices, move to a different ISP. Quit being such a hypocrite.

I dunno, do your own research. Probably not, because Telkom unfairly uses their monopoly to undercut every other competitor. They are both a wholesaler and a retailer. They can afford to undercut the others.

Another good reason to punish them by not using them.

+1 on both counts.
People bitch and moan and then are so happy with their 30gig local they get and the leeching they manage to get off various servers. :erm:

Who the fsck cares?
Local should be free anyway or not rated as Local FFS!

Change can only be created by walking away from them and that's what I did.
Though still pissed that my MTN HSDPA still somehow funds the beast, but at least it's only marginally.

People are not "willingly" feeding the beast. If you want ADSL, some way or another you are going to hand cash over to Telkom regardless of your ISP. It's an unfortunate fact, and sadly some of us just can't use 3G/HSDPA or some other wireless service due to pings, being high usage users etc.

Add to that the fact that if I choose to walk away from them, it very very unlikely their other multiple hundreds of thousands of ADSL subscribers will do the same. A large portion of said members don't even know they're being ripped off, and another large portion consists of business users who need to minimize costs...and sadly, as said before, Telkom is the lesser form of torture in many cases.

At least then use a different ISP and not Telkom Internet.
Otherwise the argument is defensive, lame and ignorant like the rest of this country that has been milked these last few decades.

I think Garyvdh was trying to say, use Telkom for phone an for the actual ADSL line rental, but don't buy their bandwidth, rather go with an IS account from one of the other ISPs. I know IS is not great sometimes, but, it's not Telkom

 sad stuff.. since the day i was conceived i have never seen a telkom maintenance van doing any checks or fixing of local station and lines, :erm:so what is happening to the money i pay for line rental:confused: :p

It does not make sense to complain about prices and then go for the more expensive option. Thus, I do not see where you are coming from with your hypocrite comment. Bad day? :D

I am also in the unfortunate position of having to use Telkom for my ADSL. I do use 3G as well. But I have NEVER used Telkom for my ISP portion. That was the part I was talking about.... cos that is the part everyone is whining and complaining about here.

We don't have a choice for the ADSL... there is only one ADSL provider and it is Telkom. So they have us over a barrel there. But when it comes to ISP I do have a choice. And I will not use Telkom as an ISP until they increase caps and lower bandwidth rates. They are the reason the other ISPs are expensive and cannot compete.

Telkom can give itself as an ISP a massive discount. It does not pass that discount on to the other ISPs. I hope MyBB continues to focus on that part of the story. The competition commission was right to get involved and examine that part of the scenario, until ICASA threw their toys out of the cot and stopped that enquiry.

We are all feeding the beast yes... for the ADSL part.

This is my point though... DON'T COME ON HERE AND WHINE AND COMPLAIN ABOUT TELKOM'S CAPS AND PRICES WHEN YOU ARE STILL USING THEM AS YOUR ISP!!! You have no right or basis to do that. You have a choice, make the choice.

I seriously wish all the MyBB users would boycott Telkom as an ISP and that MyBB would refuse them advertising. It is very hypocritical. It is one way that we can force their hand.

Huh??? it is quite easy. Just use your common sense. Don't support Telkom. Even if it is for a more expensive ISP. Take Telkom's cash away from them. Force them to reduce prices. Sometimes you have to make a sacrifice in order to get a benefit down the line. The hypocrisy part is people who whine about Telkom's pricing but still choose them as an ISP. Don't they realize how Telkom is undercutting the other ISPs? Or are they just conveniently ignoring Telkom's monopolistic behaviour?

Having said all that though, I did not choose a more expensive option. I chose a cheaper one. I only pay around R2 per Gigabyte to my ISP. :D

Looks like Telkom are easily pwning SA and mybb.

pathetic.

I agree with what was said above. This site lost its credibility when telkom was welcomed to advertise on here and I think a new activist element should be formed that can be taken seriously to do something about their ridiculous prices.

Pride does come before the fall.

Damn R2 a gig even for local thats cheap, Who is your ISP Gary?

I've got no problem with Telkom contributing the Community Fund for MyBB gear, drinks and PTA Wug sites ;)

U still got your uncapped account I assume..

Yep ;)

It costs more than most ISP packages, but also gives greater returns... and it runs at fanstastic speeds... actually better than SAIX ever ran for me.

i think telkom is trying to squeeze out their customers while they can. :(

hope this telecom monopoly is over soon.

Yes Its looks as if they know there is going to be a mass exodus and instead of trying to keep clients they saying lets squeeze them dry while we still can. Soon as an alternative option is available I am jumping ship , To be honest I already started by downgrading my services to a 2gb acc 2 months ago.

On one hand I agree with Garyvdh - we should do all that we can not to support Telkom. But on the other hand, I can't justify spending more for less with another ISP. If you have the extra money to spare, then go for it. But for those of us who don't, it's a little more difficult. Kind of like cutting off your nose to spite your face. Makes no sense.

I'm tired of hearing about Telkom's soft caps. As far as I'm concerned, my 2GB account always gets capped at 3GB every month. So absolutely nothing changes for me, expect that I'm forced to pay more in the long run because I have to pay for a phone line which I don't even want!

Your minimum monthly payment being?

I dont mind paying an extra R6.xx for a guaranteed extra 2gb, to me this IS progress, not much, but progress still.

So sorry for the lower account users. but i know okes who abuse those, they buy a few 1gb acounts and milk them each for as much as they can using the softcap rule.

Now this has ended. Shame. :-(

Seacom will NOT mean cheaper bandwidth, come on guys, get real, we have 3.5 cell phone service providers, yet we still experience some of the highest mobile phone rates in the world.
