Hi Guys,

I tried searching but couldn't get any real info. Telkom is installing my line on Wednesday (hold thumbs). It is only a voice line, as I want to get a 2mb Line with 50gb Cap bundle from Afrihost.

Now I had DSL a year and a bit ago, so the exchange is enabled, don't see any problems there (hopefully).

My question is, how long does it take from Wednesday when I order the 2mb Line from Afrihost to when I can start using my ADSL?

I'd suggest staying with Telkom rather, it might cost you a bit more but the issues aren't worth it.

oh?... The last time I had ADSL my line was also through Afrihost and I had no problems... What issues did you have?

Dropping the sync rate to 3072 (from 4096) as well as various other issues I hadn't experienced before changing ISPs (unbundled MWeb) it could have been a factor of the two but I've seen this sentiment expressed more than enough times to know that there are problems.

Well it's kind of a tough call because you read stories continually of each ISP, good and bad. I think with everything we buy in SA, it is luck of the draw... but for now, I will take the chance because I have a good history with them (for ADSL at least). If they screw up, I'll vote with my money.

Thanks for the question -it's a pretty tough one to answer.

Generally, we allow for up to 30 days for Telkom to install a new DSL line (even though the telephone line is already installed). Generally Telkom is a lot better than they were in the past, and we've seen lines go up in around a week or so. But it really depends on your local Telkom capacity and infrastructure. Some areas have more resources and technicians available so it's a little faster.

If you go for a bundle with us though, we don't charge you for the data until the line is up and running, so you can just sit back and wait for us to let you know when it's all good :)

Great stuff. Thanks for letting me know. Will then place the order tomorrow. Received the Telkom sms this morning.

Can someone please help? I have no telephone line. Been on Afrihost Mobile WiFI which I just love. I have now decided to try the Uncapped ADSL. How do I go about it? . I heard that you have to pay Telkom R705 to install a DSL Line, then you have to pay rental on the Adsl and on a normal phone line. It works out to a lot if you think about it. I don't want a normal telephone line. All I want is a ADSL Line. Please help? I want the 2 Meg line package that includes the line rental. Do I then still have to pay additional cost at Telkom
