New Afrihost TCs

I have been an afrihost subscriber for about a year and went uncapped from when it was introduced.
Never did more than about 15gig since going uncapped. 2 days ago I was throttled when hitting 70gb.
Today they are running their special again since they have surplus, so why are they throttling me if they have surplus?

What line speed do you have? I'm on 384K and have done 36gb for the month and an afraid I might get capped if I go over 40. Too many thresholds flying around and getting mighty confused. 50gb 70gb "hundreds of gb", maybe so low as 20gb.

what a load of toss.

Because people will pay per gig for the surplus and you payed already this month and used enough as deemed by them.

Similar problem - you can read my post a few back.
I also figured out why I chowed so much bandwidth - it was streaming WC games so I could watch / listen / and work.
I moved to MWEB.
Happy as a Lark, they don't deserve your money.
 
I literally read through this entire thread and I must say....I have the following opinion to the email users:

Consider This:
You win a couple of million rand. You go out and buy an amazing new car! Maybe a Ferrari or Aston Martin or whatever who cares....its fooking fast cause afterall you can afford it(aka 4MB line).
Then one day someone comes along and says(aka AH) "Hey you....with your fancy cars...here is an autobahn for you to drive as fast as you want and as far as you want.(aka uncapped). So you think this is the sh|te for me bruddas and sista's! I'm going to get my money's worth from this amazing car. Well why?? Cause I bought it and it's mine. I can do what I want with it.

So you drive and drive until you are in your element and all of a sudden, the said someone (aka AH) comes along and says "WOAH!! WOAH!!! stop bru! WTF are you doing?? Have you just gone completely mad?!? You can't drive so fast and so far that you put my other drivers in danger?? Please if you don't slow down we will have to slow you down.(aka being capped at 50GB on a SO-CALLED uncapped account)" From now on, you can drive as fast and as far as you want as long as you don't drive so fast and far that you put the other drivers in danger."

WELL, ummm.....yh....need I say more??

The bottom line is, if you buy something and it's yours to do with it whatever you want...then that's your choice. If someone comes along and offers you as much as you want, then it's your choice to do whatever you want with it once it has been given to you. It's not for the email users to come along and tell me how to make use of my own sh|te! If I want to download 100GB, heck If I wanted to download 1TB of data on a line that promises "UNCAPPED!" then again, it's my perogative. I don't give a sh|te what the email users think. It's mine! And if the ISP wants to offer this service at a next to nothing cost, then SH|TE once again, it's not my problem that they made it that price. I'm only buying what is laid before me. I have done nothing wrong! Don't sell Cake if you aren't going to let your customer eat it.

And lastly, DONT use the word UNCAPPED if its throttled at 50GB. That's not uncapped. it's a 50GB account and tell it like it is and to all you email users, where the fek do you think all your series comes from that you go to johnny next door and copy them from?? Don't come and preach innocence and say you have never copied anything like that from anyone and not watched it. That probably came from someone's line that was used to download it on your behalf so you could sit down and have a nice dinner while you watch desperate housewives with your wife and kids or something similar while Johnny next door is getting flamed for grabbing it online for you! It's convenient for you all to complain here but when it comes to you begging the more intelligent IT guys who knows how to get hold of that stuff for you when you want those games or movies, then it's fine and you are all quite.

Go figure....

I have cancelled with Afrihost now. Haven't decided who I'm moving to, I got until next Wednesday for that, but at midnight on 30th, cheers Afrihost!

Afrihost 4mb uncapped here.

See what pisses me off is, I'm sitting @ work (small/medium-ish business) and my browsing is crawling. Cant even watch this youtube funny a friend linked.
Bandwith used for the day is 1.15GB.

So WTF. what are they throttling you on per hour? 50mb and u are done for?

Some1 using mweb uncapped atm give me a pm if they are half decent. need to tell these f%ckers to p#ssoff

Nope this is where afrihost made it rather clear that this will not be the case. They said you can drive as far as you want, not as fast as you want, and made is clear your speed will be limited.
The thing is, your still able to drive doesnt matter how fast you went or how far you went, at no time will they chase you off the highway. Buuuuuut... they will eventually say no, you cannot drive that fast, decrease your speed to 20Km/h.

But who would complain, your going to pick up allot more chicks driving your ferarri at 20Km/h than 300 anyways :-P They know how fast it can go.

And on that... Why on earth would you drive your ferari on a autobahn that makes it clear you cannot drive at full speed all the time, when you do want to drive full speed all the time? Really... that's rather silly and childish.

Since I hit 70gig on the 11th of June, I have been unable to do basic things like browsing. My speeds sit at a lowly 6kB/s = dialup... I am pissed. Warning should have been communicated clearly to users. This was not done at all, ever. I went from a blistering 16gig in one day to zilch the next. Ja, fine, accuse me of abusing, wtf... According to all communicae via afrihost, the magic 100gig cloud seemed to "fine". If that were not the case, again they should have let us know it was unrealistic. I could have easily paced my usage over the full month to keep within the "uncommunicated" norms for package. If the ballpark 50 gig was what they expected us to average or peak at, they should have told us.... The beating around the bush attitude is what has flipped my "allegance" to Afrihost. I was super impresssed with everything untill two weeks ago. Now I migrate... CYA

As for _TrXtr_ and the being forced to drive 20km/h on a 300km/h road, its more like 6km/h on a 420km/h road!!!!!! nd that is 24/7 for me at the moment!!! It never unthrottles, only if I dont use the connection for a day or two, but within 10 minutes its back to that.

Have you done a speed test to confirm this speed? Have you contacted them to complain about that specific low?
I would have thought you would be brought down to something like 20KB/s at max. But if you really are stuck at 6KB I would complain (or leave).

It might be possible that I'm taking allot of space right now, cause well... I'm downloading one of my twelve dvd's today ;-)

The thing to me about this is that I'm sure they are trying to find a way to make it better for everyone. I mean, it's not telkom were talking about here. This 'uncapped' idea is a great idea, and if they keep fiddling around, eventually they will find a way that would make even more people happy. Also, if you really want to download that much, get the uncapped express+ thing from axxess. For 1k a month, you are getting way more than you pay for. Heck, cancel your DSTV subscription and just download it all (that's what I did).
But I just checked on their web-site. They really do explain really well what happens.
Me as the guy that's not a heavy user, and paying what I'm paying, am expecting my internet to work when I want it to work. At a good speed. And I think I would have a very valid reason to complain the day I do not get what I want.
16 gig a day is enormous. Space it out, you will get better results. Why not e-mail them and discuss with them what your best method will be to download the amount you want to. Because it seems their hour to hour thing is based on current usage. I doubt they would want to throttle you when no one else is putting any heavy traffic down, and that's when they should by all fairness open up more bandwidth to you.

Also if youre using torrents, your wasting bandwidth uploading to other people. Make sure your doing usenet.

But really... uncapped express+ is made for what youre doing.

Ya no listen, haven't downloaded for 4 days. Get to download something, and it's crawling along @ 6kb....

Disappointing.
