New Afrihost TCs

Can anyone recomend a service that does not behave in this way
You could just read back in the thread, there have been multiple suggestions.
Else try an uncapped unshaped from webafrica. That will do everything you want, and you'll never complain... oh wait... you will, too much buck for the bang.

Afrihost (prior to the new throttling) was fantastic. I don't know how it performs from day 1 of a month with the new system (seeing I cant be bothered to run @ 6kB/s). Switched over to MWEB for this week. So far it does not come close to Afrihost old speeds. It is shaped & throttled heavily during business hours, thats for sure. But after 7PM, mweb picks up very nicely. Got about 6 gigs in a 24rh period, vs 16gig on afrihost over 24hr period. Will just have to lower my bandwidth usage. Shouldnt be difficult!

“Pay a flat monthly rate and use the internet as much as you want - Pure Internet Joy!”
4096kbps NO CAP
With a little * and at the end of the page some fine print.

Heavy false advertising. There have been a few complains to ICASA already

Have been told on 4Mbps
on 30GB some ports gets shaped
on 50GB throttled/shaped to 1Mbps
on 80GB throttled/shaped to 512kbps (thou is more like 9600bps modem if u are lucky as browsing ain't even possible)

When mailing them they keep avoiding the issue and talk about all different bull****, like my firewall and antivirus. Talking about 100GB capped account that will cost R1900 and all weird **** to try and be clever.
What they don't realize is that I probly have more qualifications and knowledge regarding all these things than all of them there 2gether.

Maybe Afrihost has been taken over by Telkom?

+1!!!

Been an AH supporter from day1, but just cancelled my uncapped account after their service people tried to feed me some bullsh|t.

Hi

You are not being throttled. Your package and line speed is 384kbps uncapped.

There is congestion on the network. This could be causing your poor speeds. You are on 384kbps with 2nd level shaping. This will not affect your browsing http sites and smtp (mail).

Please give Telkom a call and ask them if your exchange has been experiencing problems. If you know anyone in your area connecting with Afrihost or another ISP even, ask them what the speeds are like.

I do think the problem is with the network congestion. This is a problem we recognise and are attending to.

I've only downloaded 24 GB's, and I'm on 2nd level shaping???

I think it should be advertised as an 80gig account that is hard capped. If the 80gig is a figure that they can cope with... forget about the "Uncapped" swear word. Lets just call it what it is. I'm betting users will prefer to know the limit, rather than fretting about how fast the line will go at any moment due to "dynamic shaping / throttling"

I'm so glad i jumped ship to mweb when i did. Sure they had those few weekends of down time due to external factors, but I can not fault their performance! It's been an absolute pleasure to have this account.
Had Afrihost for a month, then they did that stupid teir type throttling so moved on.. Hoped they would see the light and return to being the best ISP we all know they were.
But I agree, definitely CraftiHost, or maybe CrapiHost??
Good luck guys, all i can say is let your money do the talking. If you not happy move on.. I hear OpenWeb quite good as well..
So far I've done 580GB over April, May and June combined... Not to heavy but the account serves it's purpose...

cross eyes, did you read the wrong post or something? I'm very proud of the amount of stuff I steal from companies like warner brothers, and I'm not little girl not willing to admit it. Maybe you should read a litte more, I allready divulged my usage. Such a noob.
EL OH EL!! He calls me the noob...

Please please tell me where you get the series or episodes from?? I would love to know cause I would also be happy if I could get series for 100Kilobytes an episode ;)

I stand firm in my position that you are both cross eyed and a noob. Your post doesnt make much sense.

Well, have had my "uncapped" 4mb line on Afrihost capped. Have been with them for ages and am appalled at their behaviour. Afrihost - you are not only losing my business, but the business of everyone that i'm going to speak to. Am at about 67gigs for the month. Connection is now running at about 500 BYTES / sec.

I don't expect you to understand...;) lol If there is anything I have learned in this life is "Don't argue with an idiot! They will just bring you down to their level and beat you with experience!"

My connection also died today for no apparent reason. I phoned AH and the person just told me that this is how it is going to be from next month onwards.

"Thank you, please cancel my account."

It seems they are trying to kill their uncapped service, there was no sorry to see you go, try again later and see if it gets better or any PR, just a short and blunt "this is how it is going to be from now on"!
I'm very sad, they have been a super company and I enjoyed my time with them but I cannot work with no connection to the internet and am now in the market for a new ISP.

I have been so taken by AH that I only know of Mweb offering the same, time to dig around and see who else offers what.
:(

This is my results from noon today:

I understand that some users have been throttled for their usage in this month but has anybody been throttled for usage from last month? If they do this I think it is tantamount to fraud. If you were abiding by the terms and conditions in the past and they suddenly change the terms they cannot punish you retroactively for periods that the new terms did not apply.

I'm on 384k and even though I have not been throttled yet, this new policy does not leave me with a good feeling about them. I was perfectly happy with the old terms but I now have no idea what would be considered abuse or not, one 384k user in this thread has stated he has been throttled after 40GB which is a rather low amount to be considered abuse. My usage varied from 20GB to 45GB a month and if they throttle me I will cancel immediately.

Afrihost doesn't seem to care about their image at all any more, from hero to zero indeed.

That is why so many of us are canceling with them.

Normally on their 384k capped account and needed to download a ton of ISO`s and Steam stuff this last month.
Was like 1-2GB a day which sounds average. I have reached 45GB and now it`s  unusable.
I even battled to sign in at their client zone...
And when i eventually got it there is no indication of any sorts to know
if I am an 'offender' which makes my blood boil even thinking about it
Maybe that`s why they don`t have it there :p

I am wondering if these companies can afford to have their users and potential user hostile towards them. Imagine if you will an ISP that became actively anti-P2P, would P2P users stay with this company? Would they recommend it ? Are the profits so large, that these companies can afford to ignore and chase away clients? Are there really enough web browser and email users out there to fill their coffers? Do their shareholders know of these things?

You guys need us, we can use any ISP, remember that.

If AH changed their T&C I'll stay with them, I'm not angry at them, just really disappointed in the lack of service that is going to be the norm come next month.

Why not raise the price then by a couple of rand to recoup any loss? I'm willing to pay a little extra (within reason) but it seems that they no longer care that the people who made them popular are now the people who are leaving them in droves.
It is a sad day for me, it could have been different, so much different.

I'm with you on this one.

Their throttling policy doesn't work for me as well (have cancelled). Downloaded 50gb this month, and my speed's now between 5kb/s and 8kb/s. How I miss dial-up.

Pity - Afrihost - we were getting along so well!

I've downloaded 27GB's, have been at 12-13kbs since Thursday. One Afrihost consultant told me I was on a level 2 shaping, another one denied I was on any kind of shaping and that the network was 'congested' (for over 48hours?? really?) and that they have no ETA on when the congestion would ease. They always seem to dodge my direct questions with direct cut-and-paste bullsh|t. One consultant even pointed out that I had cancelled (yesterday), but whats his point? I've paid for this month, why can't I receive what I've paid for?
