Coming on June 9th on #4K in the UK from @Hammer_Films: #TheQuatermassXperiment (1955)!

Explore the chilling sci-fi classic that put Hammer on the map. Created by the legendary Nigel Kneale and directed by the great Val Guest, The Quatermass Xperiment is available for the first time ever in 4K UHD and Blu-ray.

Coming on July 30th on #4K/Blu-ray from @ImprintFilms: #Dune (1984)!

Before sci-fi master Denis Villeneuve helmed the franchise, surrealist auteur David Lynch crafted his epic vision based on the classic novel by Frank Herbert.

Tilt the panel to watch the sands spill, run your fingers across the sand-like grit-textured surface of the hardbox, turn the foil-stamped text towards the light, and pull out the drawer to dive beneath the dunes.

This is a heavy, bespoke collector’s item, measuring 23 x 32cm, weighing in at 1.5kg, and comes replete with comprehensive physical extras:

a full-colour matte laminated 27″ x 40″ folded print of the original poster;
a reprint of the original official 1984 three-issue comic series;
a hardcover booklet, featuring 60 pages of photographs and original production material;
a 3D Lenticular Hardcase housing all four discs;
six art cards;
a custom-made transparent PVC display case with anti-scratch film lamination.

The year is 10,191, and four planets are embroiled in a secret plot to wrest control of the Spice Melange, the most precious substance in the universe and found only on the planet Arrakis. A feud between two powerful dynasties, House Atreides and House Harkonnen, is manipulated from afar by ruling powers that conspire to keep their grip on the spice. As the two families clash on Arrakis, Duke Atreides’ son Paul finds himself at the centre of an intergalactic war and an ancient prophecy that could change the galaxy forever.

PS3/4? They not too badly priced.

Don't think PS4 has 4K UHD Blu-rays playback?

Nope (and that's the Pro regular PS4 doesn't support 4K), from Google:

The PS4 Pro does play 4K games, as well as 4K videos and movies, if it's connected to a 4K-compatible display. However, the PS4 Pro doesn't support 4K UHD Blu-rays — only regular HD and 3D Blu-rays, as well as ordinary DVDs.

I would totally collect some of the awesome bluray sets from overseas... but the South African supply is horrendous. And I don't want to mess with the region nonsense.

Coming on September 15th on Blu-ray from @CurzonFilm: #MichaelHaneke Collection!
This 14-disc Blu-ray collection contains Michael Haneke's entire feature filmography, plus newly restored TV works from the acclaimed director.
From his Glaciation Trilogy to the shock of Funny Games and subsequent Palme d’Or-winning films The White Ribbon and Amour, Haneke has developed a style that articulately fuses social critique with a cinema of transcendent beauty in its precision, purpose and humanity. With formal disruption and sly reminders of artifice, as well as emapthy and dark humour, Haneke stares where others fear to glance. In his worlds, we are all complicit – even him, even you.
Films included:
  • Three Paths to the Lake (1976)
  • Lemmings 1: Arcadia (1979)
  • Lemmings 2: Injuries (1979)
  • The Seventh Continent (1989)
  • Benny's Video (1992)
  • The Rebellion (1993)
  • 71 Fragments Of A Chronology Of Chance (1994)
  • Funny Games (1997)
  • The Castle (1997)
  • Code Unknown (2000)
  • The Piano Teacher (2001)
  • Time of the Wolf (2003)
  • Hidden (2005)
  • Funny Games US (2007)
  • The White Ribbon (2009)
  • Amour (2012)
  • Happy End (2017)
Also includes several documentaries about Haneke (including Michael H – Profession: Director) as well as interviews, behind-the-scenes featurettes, and much more. Full list TBC.

Physical media you can own and keep :) unless the studios come into your home and take it back.

That sounds so... 1990's.
:whistling:

But seriously... just this past weekend I had to repack my DVD/BR collection (repacked tv unit/stand) and had flashbacks of the good old days. So much easier now to get highseas (awwwwwrrr... *cough cough*) access to the movies but it's just not the same.

My metal case of Band of Brothers and Star Wars boxset still have that special place in my collection and every so often do a rewatch. Now that I have a projector setup and my 5.1 system back up after several years I will do a rewatch of my old time favourites again... and with the best bitrate video and sound too.
