new board and cpu

HI GUys

I bought a new board (pc chips) new processor 2.5 ghz celeron and
512 ram .I connected them and nothing happens.THe cpu fan spins but nothing else happens on the screen.

Please help

well... im thinking its the processor, make sure its slotted in correctly... and also make sure the sensor isnt touching the core & registering an overheat.

With no RAm or incorrect indereted RAM, will it not atleast beep

What is the correct way please..I see it only goes one way.
When you close the lever, I had to apply alittle force, is that correct

So,you get the system fired up but no "beep"?
That could indicate many things, a display error(GFX not working or cabling not attached properly) or you could not have the 4 pin connector(forget the name) inserted....not the 20/24 pin but the square 4 pin.Also could indicate a screwed mobo,or a Hard Drive cabling issue.
I suggest some reading on how to make "something happen on the screen".

Check for an unused "stand-off" causing a short on the board, check if there is keyboard life - press capslock, numlock etc and see if the light comes on...

If necessary, remove everything from the chassis and run it outside... see what happens...

Are you sure your CPU, and Ram are supported by the board?
 
most pcchips motherboard come from the factory preset not to post. you laugh, so do I.

there is a jumper for the cmos battery, check the manual, the default configuration is cmos_clear. In this configuration it wont post.
set the jumper to "normal" and the machine should post.
 
HI Guys

Thanks for trying to help me.

I took out everything,just got the cpu/cpu fan/ram/power to Mb/MOnitor to board and I used to jumper to power up.Still only CPU fan spins

I have a pC chips board P21G V 3.1 and a CEleron 2.5 GHZ
512 DDR .It has pc3200 written on the ram Sticker

from the motherboard manual
"Note:
1. Before installing this motherboard, make sure jumper JP3 is under
Normal setting. See this chapter for information about locating JP3
and the setting options."

please double check this...it is really the most common problem with pcchips boards. the jumper is just below the two sata ports
 
If it is really (doubt it) the problem,just pop out the little silver battery (coin-sized) for 2 mins and pop it back in.No need to mess with the jumpers.
 
is it working now? or still no post? did you have to change the jumper position at all?

also, dont use a jumper to short out the power pins...it wont post either that way, just go into an endless reboot cycle...just short out the two pwr_on pins with a key or a screwdriver or something...and make sure the aux_ 4 pin connector (yellow and black wires) is connected...this was mentioned elsewhere in this thread.
apart from that...well, you may need some bits to swop out to find the problem.

<edit> @ Beta: the pcchips boards ship form the factory with the jumper in the cmos_clear position....the board doesnt post in the cmos_clear position. It needs to be set to "normal" before it will post...nothing to do with corrupted cmos or having to remove the battery etc. Luckily this is explained in the manual, unluckily, folks like me only find this out the hard way:-)
 
Strange,and for educational purposes,what is the reason for implementing this?
 
the only reason i can think of is to stop cmos batteries draining while motherboard is sitting on shelves waiting to be bought.

other manufacturers dont do this though, so, food for thought about the volume of their sales, or quality of their cmos batteries

your board should have a 4pin connector, white in colour, near the cpu socket. your power supply will have a corresponsding 4 pin connector, also white, which comprises of 2 black and 2 yellow wires.

if these arent plugged into the mb then you also have no post, as they supply extra juice which the cpu requires
sometimes this connector is called the aux_ connector, or the "p4 connector" or the atx12v connector or even a 2x2 connector...but you can spot it easily...just look for yellow and black wires, with no red:-)
