New build doesn't boot, nor complain.

I think he should pull out all the ram sticks and just put one random one inside.

I think so too... Unplug everything (incl ram modules), plug in only motherboard and cpu power, the cpu should be in.

Boot the system, any beeps? If not it is not posting... Seems odd, with 1 ram module and screen boot again? If nothing, reset the bios and boot again... If nothing seems the firmware upgrade theory might be likely.

How is that gonna help?

I've had weird things happen with incompatible ram before too, was on AMD socket AM3... Causing a system not to post.

Memory would actually be my second thought, but I don't want to dwell on it. Let them update and see if it fixes the issue. If RAM is the issue I will cry. That's a lot of money to waste.

Why I said RAM is because when I plug out all the RAM the speaker screams at me (not beeps; a constant noise). However, there is no reason why anything should be wrong with the RAM.

That screaming beep is the motherboard posting but halting on an error (theres no ram). This would indicate that both the CPU and the motherboard are fine... There may be nothing physically wrong with the RAM but it may not be compatible with the motherboard (regardless of its speed, sometimes some brands just wont work).

I have a graphics card and I have tried it. In any case. The motherboard is with Rectron. They'll do their thing, I'll try different sticks when it comes back.

This is where it gets interesting though, the fm2 and fm2+ are exactly different in the way they see RAM, so it might still be firmware after all.

Got it back from Rectron. Still doesn't work. Tried a different RAM stick. Still doesn't work. I'll get a friend to borrow me another RAM stick but I doubt it will work.

Either Rectron is ****ing incompetent, which is what they sound like over the phone when I enquire whether they actually updated the BIOS, or the CPU is a dud.

Is there anyone in CT that will be able to help me? I feel ****ing helpless. There's nothing I can do.

I am so ****ing frustrated right now.

A long shot, but if Rectron genuinely updated the motherboard BIOS, my suggestion would be to dis-assemble everything from the case and try connecting only the following components together:
- put the motherboard on a non-conductive surface
- install the CPU/heatsink/fan from scratch
- insert one stick of RAM
- relevant power cables and basic connections
- GPU if you don't have onboard (if applicable)
- primary HDD only
- connect the display/screen

Try powering on and see what happens. If still no boot, try swapping out the RAM sticks one by one. If it does boot out of the case, then there is probably a short between the motherboard and the case somewhere - review the case/mobo mountings before installing everything in the case.

Only other suggestion is to try and find someone with some spare components whereby they can check them piece by piece (PSU, motherboard, CPU and RAM).

Good luck sir!

Tell me about it. Don't know how many times I went through a new mobo because the CPU was faulty or a new CPU because the mobo was faulty back in the good ol' Athlon days. Back then, the boards were like R400 and the CPU cheap.

Never ever had issues with AMD. My first ever Intel build is my current one and the MB died on me, the current one is also dodgy wrt usb & one mem slot. Gigagbyte brand, which I've been using most my life.
