New build doesn't boot, nor complain.

Hi guys,

Just bought myself a new build. Got it all installed and it turns on fine (The lights and everything), but my screen doesn't go on and it just doesn't feel like it's POSTing. I've removed the RAM sticks and the speaker then complains (that's a good thing, right?). I'll reset the CPU tomorrow, but I'm not very optimistic. Is it possible that the BIOS is out of date?

If I can't get it to work, which is what I feel is to be the likely outcome - is there anywhere in Cape Town that test components at an affordable rate? I don't want to take it to just anyone because most don't have a clue or the tools to check components.

Edit: OK, scrape that, see you don't have a GFX. SSD and motherboard combo, maybe?

Yes, I've tried both a DVI and VGA on different screens, GPU and on board. (I've got an HD 5570 that I was repurposing)

I've unplugged the SSD.

From what I'm reading it can be an out of date BIOS. How the **** will I solve this? Is anyone here running an FM2 CPU that lives in Cape Town and would be willing to test out my system?

In fact, this seems to be a reoccurring problem with this particular motherboard. Please, can anyone help? I don't know anyone with an FM2 CPU.

Meh sounds like a motherboard issue, mine did this where it would make no error sounds nor would the screen come on and turned out it was a motherboard issue. I just took a gamble and bought a new motherboard as I didnt really have anywhere to go and get it tested.

That A10-7850K CPU is only supported since BIOS version F5 (2013/11/19), so you'll need to get someone to update the BIOS for you, because I highly doubt that the one you've got is that new.

I know. This is what I picked up too.

I'd try calling suppliers to find out if they will do a bios update. I'm not 100% certain, but I think you can return a mobo to ask for a bios update.

Yeah, I'll contact NIVO if I don't come right within this weekend (I.e. Find someone able and willing to help).

Rectron might not be able to assist as they no longer do AMD CPU's anymore, as you would need one that the board can see to do the update, perhaps speak to Frontosa, last i checked they still did AMD and more than likely would be able to assist for price.

How is that gonna help?

The cpu is not compatible with the board under the current bios, in order to get to the bios you need to plug another cpu in there in order to flash the bios so it can take the newer cpu. Catch-22 unless he has an older cpu lying around which he does not, hence taking it to a supplier that do have cpu's in stock so they can flash it.

Definitely a catch-22. They should make the BIOS run on it's own little CPU , so you can at least update it

That's a super idea.
And while they're at it why not create a bios that never needs updating? and link that to a future proof cpu that doesn't need power.

Took it to Rectron CPT, they can't fix it because they don't do AMD. They're sending it to JHB because they have a few lying around. Best case scenario is a two week turn around.

Good to know that they helped out in someway other than having you to shelve out for a new mobo. Us coastal guys always get the shorthand when it comes to turn around times on faulty unfortunately
