New Cabinet

Which one of these corrupt ministers are responsible for spectrum?

Let me go tweet them.

I was also overlooked by the proteas selectors and I have no hard feelings either; fact that I am completely useless at playing cricket is a moot point if someone raises it.

The likes of Maine saw themselves as exceptional politicians ANC couldn't do without. All while their speeches and pressers were prepared at the (in)famous shebeen.

Truth be told this merit thing is overrated and used as a tool of gatekeeping by many, I know because it always arises when the issue of EE in regards to women comes up, same as with black appointments, there are less concerns about merit when men and white people are appointed.
I am supportive of diversity, however appointments should not be made because a person is of particular gender or race.
The should be appointed because they are competent to perform the apointed role / function.

It has age restriction?
If you are older than 30 you would have know the history first hand.

Otherwise there is some people who consider Mandela a sellout or political prostitute.

Mostly propaganda used to kickstart RET campaign. I'm curious. How's he a political prozzie?

Before you proceed, what are PPE requirements? Tinfoil hat necessary?

I am glad you are not one of those people.

Basically he reduced the ministries, but retained most of the post.. i.e

From 73 positions to 64 positions which is STILL double that which was started with ie 25 ministers and 10 deputies.. so naturally the rand not recovering. I think this does not bode well for Eskom as it’s a very clear indication that he will do similar with SOE and public/gov positions, ie shuffle stuff but not reduce numbers which is ultimately what’s required.

RW Johnson, a seasoned political commentator, made the point that Cyril's "compromise" strategy works well in business but not so much in politics. The hard liners in the ANC (Mabuza, Ace etc) know that compromise can perceived to be weakness. To be honest, all I have seen up to now is that is quite accurate. No slimming down of Eskom staff numbers, the job summit that ended in spectacular failure, gargantuan public sector wage increases etc.

Expect the SAA debacle to be "business as usual" in light of this.

How's he going to feed from the trough to pay his bond?

ANCYL leader Collen Maine resigns as an MP

Embattled ANCYL president Collen Maine has resigned as a member of parliament.

Maine told our sister publication TimesLIVE that he was leaving parliament due to "private matters", but he wouldn't elaborate or discuss his future plans.

"I'm going nowhere," he said.

Maine was sworn in alongside all newly elected members of the National Assembly on May 22, just 44 days ago.
Because of his seniority in the ANC, there were expectations that he would be named among President Cyril Ramaphosa's executive, or at the very least be given a senior position in parliament. But That did not happen.
Instead, the party deployed him as an ordinary member of the public service and administration portfolio committee.

In recent weeks, ANCYL members have called for Maine and his executive in the league to step down and allow fresh blood to take over the leadership.
He has dug in his heels, saying he wants an opportunity to report back to youth league members on his executive's achievements and failures, and also to offer advice to the league's new leadership.

Hawks decline to prosecute Collen Maine over R500 000 payment – Natasha Mazzone

Hawks decline to act on suspicious payment to ANC Youth League

19 February 2019

The Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation, or “Hawks”, have confirmed in a letter that they have declined to prosecute the former president of the ANC Youth League (ANCYL), Collen Maine, on charges of corruption.

In September 2017 I laid charges against Maine and Joe Singh from Just Coal, after the latter confirmed that R500,000 was paid to the ANCYL in anticipation of an extension to a coal contract with Eskom. The 2014 contract to supply Eskom with coal was terminated in 2016, despite this payment to the ANCYL.

In their letter to me, the Hawks state that there is “no reasonable prospect of successful prosecution” because there was no corroborating evidence to support the allegations that the R500,000 was paid to the ANCYL “to assist in receiving a further Eskom contract”.

But this only poses the obvious question: why would Just Coal give R500,000 to the ANCYL? And why would Singh lie about his intentions in making this payment?

Just Coal’s R500,000 payment to the ANCYL is reminiscent of the R500,000 paid by Bosasa to President Cyril Ramaphosa to support his campaign to be elected ANC president in 2017.

We now call on the ANCYL to do what Ramaphosa did: concede that the payment was dubious and pay it back immediately. Maine cannot claim ignorance of this payment as he personally lobbied Singh to contribute financially to the ANCYL.

The Hawks decision to let Maine off the hook is disappointing, but we will not allow this dubious payment to be swept under the rug. Indeed, Eskom is set to come under the spotlight at the Zondo Commission of Inquiry into State Capture this week and Parliament will similarly focus on the “Eskom energy crisis” with my urgent debate on Thursday.

The DA will continue to fight State Capture and corruption in all its forms and with the same single-mindedness with which we are working towards building One South Africa for All.
