New Camera needed

Sackboy : A professional setup is prob gonna cost alot closer to the R50k mark including all the requisite lenses.

LOL guys
a professional setup is whatever the pro uses
I know a pro that uses a Nikon D70 with 18-55 kit lens for his wedding stuff - booked up for 6 months (word of mouth - no advertising)
know another one that uses a Canon 350D w/kit lens , and someone who uses a Canon300v
know a fashion photographer that uses a Nikon from 1988, and a 1960s Hasselblad

shhhh.. don't burst my bubble... i'm trying to justify NOT going that route atm... :p

Better... now i can convince myself even easier to avoid pretending to be a professional ;)

The difference between a pro and recreational photographer is a lot more than the gear they use. Anyone with enough money can buy top notch equipment - it doesn't necessarly make them a professional photographer.

You can't buy an eye.

you ppl who keep interrupting this with reality... i mean really :p

All you need to be a pro is for there to be someone willing to pay for your photos.

My main point is there are people who believe its the equiptment that will make them a good shooter and imo that's not necessarily the case (though it probably won't make them a worse photographer :D).

Yeah, totally true, and I totally agree...

I know a "pro" photographer who has loads of expensive kit, and he's flippin useless....

Its ultimately all about your eye and how your photos look.....

I just need to try and justify to myself why I'm not buying the expensive kit :D

If you have the money then go for it.

You can still be an awesome photographer and not be a professional.

Thats where I'm trying to get to.. If i can do it professionally, then great.. if not, also great.. I just enjoy it and thats all that matters...

I used to have a pro-standard camera complete with lenses. It didn't cost anywhere near R50k and the results were pretty good. But then it wasn't digital, which is slowly catching up, quality wise. It was bulky (less so than these), and impractical for traveling and I quickly swapped it for a quality point & shoot.

Sackboy : How old was the pro-standard camera with lenses? If you do the conversion to todays money, you'll prob find it will be ALOT more expensive than you think.
