New Camouflaged Speed Cameras

I'm pretty sure this exact conversation took place on this exact forum about 2 years ago; but searching for it is impossible.

Every thread that isn't about racism is about speeding.

The box pictured is not a speed camera.

apparently there are a couple at the entrance to stellenbosch at the mill on the polkadraai road...can anyone confirm?

1300 People died on the roads this holiday season and your seriously going to make traffic enforcement about government wanting money? If you want to bitch and moan about the government do it on actual issues, there are more than enough of them going around. Well done to the government, this should be a more cost effective way of enforcing the laws and some one clearly though outside the 'box'.....;)

Also isnt that DA territory? So not even the ANC.

O and you think speeding was the main cause of all those deaths? Wake up man, people like you should drive a bloody pram. These boxes look like that for a reason. It is so you and I will not see them easily (which should be the main purpose of a speeding camera). This camera is there to catch people to make money, not to get them to reduce their speed in a "high accident" or whatever zone. So I am glad you like being raped out of your hard earned money, I sure as hell aint..

The best way to control speed in an area would be to have big visible passive cameras. Nobody is going to speed if they can see the cameras. People will still speed if there is a cop hiding in the bush or if the camera is hidden in a box. They should just put up highly visible cameras every 2km or so.

Visible policing is a good idea but then we would need way more cops than we have now which means more more money will be needed to pay their salaries.

That doesn't help anyone at all, in fact it increases the problem.

There was a static camera outside Stellenbosch for many years...guess what people did a 100km/h on that 60km/h road then quickly braked for the camera and then sped off after passing it.

Now they've removed it...people aren't speeding any more.

Humans have a natural rebellious instinct and that comes to the fore especially with regards to these kinds of things.

People ARE speeding... They just not getting fines anymore!

There have apparently been some new speed cameras installed in Stellenbosch and Knysna that look like electricitry boxes:

Don't know if anyone has any info on them. They seem rather peculiar, and they're rather low down on the ground, but people are claiming they're cameras.

Seen them mentioned on twitter, here and here

Edit ---
Here's a news link I found, don't know if it's been posted before.

Is this on the strand road opposite the entrance to medi clinic?
