New career path

Hi all,

I wanted to let you guys know, that as of 15th March 2012 (I start at ER24 on the 16th), I will no longer be working in IT anymore.
I'm currently in the process of working my 30 notice period days.

Yeap... I have resigned from my current employer and have taken a position in EMS with ER24

Not entirely sure of what base I'll be working from, but hopefully Cape Town Medi-Clinic.

I will hopefully still be able to volunteer with Metro EMS on my off days but we'll see how that goes.

I won't lie, I'm very nervous but also very excited.

Thanks to uncle rpm for sorting my 'avatar' out :) and for those interested, you can always follow me and my adventures on my Twitter account.
But I will still always remain a active member on MyBB - I could never leave you loosers! :)

Congrats on taking* the leap & going for what you want. :cool:

I'm sure it'll work out fine.

* making? :confused:

Nice :)

I've always felt that being a paramedic/fireman is a more "important" and meaningful job than writing code, but one has to consider the salary difference :(

I'm sure you did though so props to you! Good luck!!

but one has to consider the salary difference :(

I considered this too - I am taking a salary knock of close to R2000 and losing the 'perk' of having a company car.
EMS is where my passion lies - you have to follow your passion or I might live life with regrets - I'm not one to do that.

I'll find other ways of making that money - working overtime or events or something for ER24 - one way or another.

Congrats and good luck. You will be saving lives. Not many people can boast that!

What do firemen and paramedics do when they are on standby and not called out ...? They sit in front of the PC.

Good luck with the new career path!

If you follow your passion in life, and even get paid for it, not one day will feel like work. ;)

Writing good code is always important.... suckers that write poor code are bound to give some poor end-user a heart attack or cause him to get stuck up in a tree :p

@gdiza kudos on you dude.

To paraphrase MasterCard: "To be able to go to work in the morning knowing that you will spend the day doing something that you enjoy: priceless"

Go well
