New Chromecast Ultra based on Android TV with remote!

I think its the Chromecast that pulls the power. The old ones could be powered via one of the USB ports on the TV but this new one needs to be powered directly to the plug.

The Chromecast TV, needs to be powered by its own power supply, normal TV USB dockets do not supply enough power. Using the hub's own power supply, may or may not supply enough power either. Best use the Google Chromecast TV 's own power supply. A hub with nothing plugged into it should not use any significant amount of power.

Right he has, a camera and a USB Thumb drive plugged into that hub. Should handle the USB stick, but the camera draws a significant amount of power all on it's own. So the probable cause, of insufficient power.

Thus the Google Chromecast TV 's power supply can power the Chromecast device and a USB stick, but not carry the camera as well. No surprises there. Make alternative plan to see camera gets the power it needs. Personally I see no reason to put a camera on a media streaming device. But yeah, ... , takes all types ...

Check at 2 mins he plugs in just he ChromeCast and the hub using the 7w power cable and its not enough.

Just re the camera - looks like nothing really supports it yet (bar Duo) but would be cool to use it for Zoom or Skype. You can use the remote as a mic and then have the camera on the TV, for family chats I think this will be awesome, chill on the couch and chat on the TV instead of using a laptop or phone.

What is the quality of the cable between the hub and the Google Chromecast TV?

It is a proven issue with RPi devices, that using a cable with high current loss produces just such issues.

Too many variables to make judgement on.

Got it to read my USB flash drives. Had to go into developer mode and change USB config from "Charge" to "MTP". Played some Dreamcast and N64, works great. Albeit, only Fat32 supported.
But it powers and reads my 2.5" external drive. I'd assume a USB stick will take less power than a drive with moving parts.
2.5" keeps booting the Chromecast when I insert it on the Hub. But when it's in, its stays on. Also needs to be fat32 to work on Chromecast.,

Regarding over heating question from before : Me and daughter played Sonic Adventure 2 (Dreamcast) and Wario World (GBA) for about an hour now. The Chromecast is getting hot, not much though. Don't know if it's too hot or whether it will cause issues. But going good so far.

Works well, super fast. Cant even say that I am missing wired too much as there are zero buffering issues on 5ghz (will still go wired anyway). Only strange thing I found is that it refuses to direct play some videos in Plex, just sits spinning. If I manually allow it to transcode then it works fine.

Yeah that R169 hub from takealot works well on it. I’m using it with a usb Ethernet dongle to stream very high bitrate HDR.

Impressed.

Link? And are you using stock power supply?

Looking around Twitter, Reddit, and Google’s own support forums, there are plenty of examples of users who are being affected by this problem. Reports can easily be found as far back as November 2020 as well as this very month, January 2021. It doesn’t seem like updated software builds or the date of the hardware production has any role in causing the problem.

In any case, though, this error results in the system putting up a blue and black error screen that says that the Chromecast with Google TV “can’t load Android system” and that “your data may be corrupt.” It’s a daunting screen for anyone who hasn’t encountered it before but, thankfully, there are some easy workarounds here.

How to fix ‘data may be corrupt’ Chromecast with Google TV error

The common mistake when trying to fix this problem is trying to use the remote included with Chromecast. When any Android device goes into this state, it effectively cuts itself off from everything else. On a phone, that means wireless accessories and the touchscreen are inoperable. On Chromecast with Google TV, it means the remote doesn’t work, though you wouldn’t get that based on the error message.

Rather, you have to navigate this menu by using the singular button on the back of the Chromecast with Google TV, pictured below. That button is used to both navigate and select options in this menu. A single press moves between the options on-screen while a 3-second long-press selects the option which is highlighted in blue.

If you do run into this error, the first thing we’d recommend attempting is a simple reboot using the “Try again” option. To do that, simply press and hold the button for a second or so and the Chromecast will quickly reboot. In many cases, this solves the problem.

If that doesn’t work, you’ll have to perform a factory reset from this page. To do that, press the button once to get the “Factory data reset” option highlighted in blue. From there, simply long-press to select that option. From there, the Chromecast with Google TV will reset itself, wiping all data. After it boots back up, hopefully this time without the “data may be corrupt” error, you’ll need to set up Chromecast with Google TV again from scratch. Luckily, most data will be saved to your Google account which means you’ll just need to log into and download some apps.

This has no ethernet. This hub + additional USB ethernet dongle + additional PSU will be way more expensive than the Google hub.

I had a cheap Ethernet adapter lying around.

HOW TO WATCH SUPER BOWL LIV WITH YOUR CHROMECAST WITH GOOGLE TV

FEBRUARY 7, 2021

Super Bowl Sunday is upon us and many want to know where to stream the big game. This year, CBS Sports is at the helm of the Super Bowl broadcast. While it won’t be available to be streamed in 4K or HDR due to COVID-related limitations, it won’t stop millions of fanatics from tuning in and enjoying this American tradition of watching football, commercials, and the halftime show while gobbling down massive amounts of food.

The Kansas City Chiefs and Tampa Bay Buccaneers will face off on Sunday February 7th, 2021 in Tampa Bay, Florida. Kick-off time is at 6:30pm ET with pre-game coverage starting as early as 2pm ET.

How to watch with your Chromecast with Google TV
Youtube TV: If you are a subscriber, you will be able to stream the game by simply tuning in to CBS from within the Youtube TV app or the channel guide.
Other TV streaming services: AT&T TV, Hulu with Live TV, and Fubo TV all carry CBS in their lineup, so if you subscribe to either of these services, you’re in luck. Unfortunately, that is not the case with Sling TV. Of course, you can always go the route of signing up for a free trial of these services, and then cancelling after the game.
Livestreams: You can access the official CBS stream for free at CBSSports.com as well as via NFL.com. Unfortunately, there is no CBS Sports App available to install on your Chromecast with Google TV, but you can stream it on the website, then cast it to your TV.
Mobile Apps: The game will also be streamed via the CBS Sports, NFL and Yahoo Sports mobile apps for Android and iOS. Same applies here for casting from the mobile app to your TV, if the app allows.
En Español: Spanish speakers can enjoy the game by tuning in to ESPN Deportes, however, a cable login will be required.

Or DstvNow Channel 218 ESPN from 1AM.

Ever since I got the Chromecast, I noticed Plex was buffering at times. Was getting worse, the last couple of days. 2 days ago I removed the hub/adaptor I bought from Takealot and the buffering is gone. Maybe not enough power is coming through?
