I am on the same contract as you , mychoice 75 topup with now a 1gb bundle loaded and I am 1 year into it , you would have to pay a penalty from what i gather , I've been into this at length with MTN and unless you loose take out a new contract you will not benefit from the specials.
What would be nice is if MTNSP could take all the unused voice minutes from the contract and allow that to pay for the migration / penalty / downgrade costs because if that is the case then I should have over R1000 worth of airtime on my data number to facilitate this.
Doubt it would make economic sense for them to do this as they would lose money , they in business to make money anyways.
W.r.t data usage like I said in another post , I must be going blind because on my profile on MTNActive I simply don't see what I have used besides a PSD 10mb bundle on my primary voice number and a PSD 1gb bundle on my datacard contract.
Numerous attempts to find out data usage has been unsuccessful , when the bill comes I just pay it , don't even bother to enquire anymore.

In my case, this would be considered a downgrade from a MyChoice 75 on which my E620 card is subsidized to a Pro-Data, so I would have to pay in a penalty to cover the remaining cost of the card.
