quote from WBS website: WBS is aggressively pursuing its rollout targets with the view of offering service to a few commercial subscribers before the end of 2004. Our official public launch will take place in the first quarter of 2005. end quote

22 new base stations were announced with great fanfare on 23/03/05. There are still 22 in planned status.

Areas that were scheduled to go live on 18/04/05 (yesterday):

Benoni
Florida
Linden
Morningside
Roodekrans
Strand/Somerset West

They are just 'Planned' again this morning.

quote again: * All dates are approximations due to various dependencies, WBS will not be held responsible for any deviations or variations on these dates. end quote

Is this a good advert? But then, nobody from WBS takes this forum seriously.

On the other hand, some basestations have just appeared up-and-running without any pre-announcement.

Not sure I'd want to criticize WBS too much on their rollout. IMHO its just about the most impressive thing they've been doing so far.

I just like to know...

Why is everyone struggling to get a tower up for PTA-East (Garsfontein/Faerie Glen).

Is it demand/ legal red tape that is hindering them?

Well, at least it kept me from actually signing up!!

:)

Shouldn't be red tape here. CSIR tower, which should cover this area, can't be a prob. The other location on top of Chambord flats is already densely populated by Sentech and the likes, so red tape can't be the issue there either

Maybe if they move the Pta locations to where they belong on their rollout page, they'll start installing some of them as well :D

No, it's Telkom to blame! Yes people, believe it or not, just like cellphone base stations, iBurst uses Telkom links to connect the tower to WBS network.

Telkom is not sticking to delivery schedules which means towers take longer to go live. I know this to be the case with Roodekrans, which I am anxiously awaiting to go live so I can get internet at home.

If you can give me the exact address of one iBurst tower I can try and find out thru my connections and see when the TLR completion was signed for the link, and if, it's a case of waiting for the customer (in this case WBS) or if it's Telkom to blame (I think it's the latter)

My "Rooftop" installation is also connecting to Randburg. I'm also waiting for the Roodekrans tower so that I can get my "Rooftop" iBurst UTD lightning conductor inside where it belongs.

Hahaha, maybe you wont connect there if the base station is overload you'll move to the next sexy base station next door 2 meaning closes if thats full you maybe will connect about 15 km further.

I need the Morningside basestation to go up, maybe that will stop me from connecting to Randburg :(

Blame it on Telkom! WBS you have done it again. Why don't you just admitt, that you guys are not efficient nor effective. READ through what people are saying. Disconnect problems, speed problems, cap problems etc.

Don't tell us Telkom is at fault, cause you are useless in every other area as well!

Show us you can do something and we'll believe it when you point your fingers at others.

You have my support, the day you actually do something.

Noticed it this morning too and wanted to post. Well done WBS ;) . Great advertising :) .
