Tower 5 in CPT is still Plumstead and tower 2 is still Kenilworth.

I'll post the numbers for Constantia and Kirstenhof when they finally come up.

Please post load as well...

Hi Guys

Can I ask that if possible, you could also include the load of a specific tower, as this will help others not to direct their antennae to overloaded (load 3) towers?

The load changes depending on how many people are on the tower, almost all towers will be at least 1 during the day and probably around 0 in the night.

But its a good idea, not shure how to generalise the load though.

My Plumstead tower has a load of 2 during the day most days, but often a load of 1 after hours and later.

Load of towers to be posted

Hi EHV

I suggest posting the highest load, or the load that reflected when you ran the test if only one test was completed.

If it turns out that the tower load is lower when a member of the forum does connect to the specific tower, it will be a bonus instead of a disappointment.

OKay, well then I would call the Plumbstead tower 2. but it has very good performance actually, so 1 might reflect that better, maby its just on the verge of 2 I dont know...

I'd like to help but, other than Northcliff, the signals are so bad that I don't think the distances are a reliable guide - eg Primrose Hill (Germiston) is reported as 2km distant and it's much more than that. The current (23h25) load on Nothcliff is 3 - just thought I'd mention that.

You are not from JHB - my "home" tower - Kyalami has a consistant load of 3 from around 8 in the morning to around 1 in the morning. Between 1am and 8 am you MAY get lucky and get a load of 2, or if its school holidays, christmass and a blue moon 1. 0 - NEVER

Consolidation of Information

This thread has great aspirations, however one of the first principles of information technology is to keep data in one place ONCE.

SeBurn has a site & has on occasion offered to put up a proper web page to collate this data - Surely that must be better than a long list of ad-hoc posts in an ever growing thread?

SeBurn - Help us - put up a DB driven (maybe with history to circumvent the odd dodgy result, or a VOTE count that can weigth the answers submitted) page that can collate these kind of posts.

I personally would like to see stuff like :
Tower number
Assumed Tower name / description
number of connections (one connection doth not an answer give)
comments / motivations for a tower to be named - for example always used to connect to Bryston tower when Kyalami was down, so Brynston is probably still tower 4
Tower load
Reported distance from tower
Your location (is the distance reported reasonable?)
avg DB seen
(maybe - this is subjective to the ping site) avg ping
(maybe - this is subjective to the download / test site) avg kb/sec

I like this idea :)

How about a photo of the tower as well ;) so noobs will know where to point their antenna.

Also gps location (easy to get from google earth)

well, ppl like me don't bother to go to other sites. no offense seburn. too lazy at night and just wanna play games after i come home. i know it would be better, but it wouldn't hurt if it's here as well.

i'll post this in a new thread if it becomes clogged. problem solved :)

Need more Cape Town numbers!

Hi there if you know of a base station number in Cape Town that's not reflecting please post it here...

The ones I'm certain of:

17 is Hyde Park, not Linksfield Ridge.
27 is Illovo (Lowndes Gate, not Laudergate)
13 is Randburg as listed.

I'm in Pta East (Past Woodhill) and connected to tower 23 ???????

It states unknown tower load between 0 and 1 (at this time) and distance 9km.

Anyone know if thgis is the "Garsfontein" tower?
And where is this tower acually?

:)

Thanks Bishop 01, updated your info...

Does anybody know what the Sea Point tower number is or any other tower that is not listed?

23 is Monument Park @ S 25 48.04 E 28 14.61

Garsfontein is in St Bernard Street @ S 25 48.43 E 28 19.04
On my kit it gives a tower number of '0'

Chambord also gives a tower number of '0'

Are these satellite / repeater transmitters?
