Not sure about others, but the HDPVR2P's are connected, just not used by the std (satellite) firmware. For gated communities, hotels etc. MC flash the box with different firmware so it can receive the signal over the Ethernet port via IP multicast.
 
jaaa, its the pace one, sadly the only way is to take it in, however, they dont swap it, they just reload the firmware from USB, takes about 5 minutes

Yeah right! Notwithstanding the possibility of someone calling it a bit disingenuous, I would urge potential PVR buyers to wait until the new decoder is released, unless you REALLY, REALLY, REALLY cannot live without a (free) 3,5" television....:D
 
slightly offtopic but have had huge issues with recording series. Tapes one fine then the next day it shows as recoreded by zero minutes. Took the decoder in , was told its an installation problem. Had guys out spent loads of money , no problem. Take it back still cant resolve..... anyway wife gets Multichoice to come out!! Guy was very good and sharp and he says its a known bug and a fix should be out by November..... Surely should get all these software problems sorted before worrying about new hardware.
 
Well with a 2TB HDD then its definitely going to be pricey, but the initiative looks good though, ;)

I don't know why they'd make the drive that big. I've never even reached 80% on my current drive.

But then again there are guys who hoard recordings for some reaon :)

question here, what pvr do you have?

have you tried the flash reset?

I call bollocks on this...

The PACE decoder I have is the same model used all over the world by other providers that let the users have USB and Ethernet capabilites. PACE would not have built a special model just of Multichoice. MC just disable them in the firmware.
 
Im still stuck with that rubbish silver UEC one. The thing is so loud I swear the neighbours can hear the fan and its dog slow.

Waiting on this new one

strangely enough it actually works

@reaper84 , i too have a silver UEC, which was slow and buggy, done a flash reset, and while its still slow, its not as slow,

I don't think they develop the hardware. They buy white labelled hardware, rebrand, and develop their own firmware.
 
A bit off topic, but what is a flash reset or more to the point, how is it done?
