New DStv channels, numbers changed (1 October 2012)

I wish they would stop changing the channel numbers, its like they have nothing better to do. :mad:

Looks like they are never going to fix their decoder software, sigh not surprised really..
 
So, they now have 6 more channels to Repeat old movies per genre.
 
Call me stupid, but I am very happy about this. Extra HD channels, more movie channels, etc. I am not in front of my TV 24/7, so I will not be seeing all the repeats. I am getting really fed up with seeing all the repeats on this forum with bitter, moaning people bitching about the aforementioned repeats.

I'm excited about this. Don't have much time for TV, so with my PVR I always have something to watch now.
 
If it was not for the kids i would have canceled DSTV long time ago, (retired sports supporter until further notice).
IMHO DSTV is over priced and not worth the money, cannot wait for South Africa to get a decent IPTV solution(TV and Internet combined).

I think it is progress. After all, we have nearly as many HD channels as the UK now, but only one broadcaster, which is not good. At least in the UK you have BBC, ITV and Sky all competing with one another. Then you can get free to air channels from France, also in HD.

But I belong to a movie club and we buy European series like Bron (Bridge), Spiral, The Killing, etc, from Amazon.co.uk and get them sent to an address in Switzerland, they are quite cheap. It works out cheaper to send them to Switzerland, not only is the shipping free but Amazon UK deduct the VAT, which is 20% now.

Such is the amount of stuff to watch that I only started watching Homeland on Saturday, it's been sitting on my PVR all this time, but with the new one coming next week I have to catch up:).

Do people think that Hollywood will suddenly go "hey, we need to release all those secret blockbusters now that DStv has more channels!" :D

They will be rerunning older moves, but in HD. Everyone wins... I'm looking forward to the Matrix in HD FTW!

If you bother to read the article properly, you would learn that DSTV had to change the channel numbers because they moved to a new satellite and because of the HD contents. It is called progression and to everyone's benefit. Live with it.

How about DSTV start investing in local film production companies? How about having more short-film competitions? Have DSTV commissioned local only shows? Soapies? Wildlife shows? Game shows? No, they add no value

They buy shows from overseas, slap on 300% operating margins, and hold us ransom for sport.

Dude, have you ever seen a little channel called Mzansi Magic? Go on your knees and thank whomever you pray to that there is not more of that crap on the telly. Also, have you heard of Egoli, The Wild or any of the things on Kyknet? Do you want them to do more of that, but in movie format? Really? I quite appreciate overseas shows, since I am paying the premium price already, thanks.

I dont like the fact that sd and hd channels are combined i.e mnet. Sometimes i record in SD as a space saver because I cant watch in hd from my bedroom. so now I am recording at double the space requirements for so reason
 
This is silly. I am going to get an epileptic fit sifting through these channels.

If they want so much to make navigation sensible and easy then why the following?

- Discovery Channel (121), ZoneReality (132), Crime & Investigation (170), Discovery ID (171), National Geographic (181), other reality/documentary channels (182,183,184,186,187) - so, you have reality/documentary channels from 121 to 187. Why not just put them together.
- While all the movie channels are between 103 and 112, the Turner Classic Movies channel is on channel 137
- While the family entertainment channels (SABC 1,2,3 and eTV) are in the 130s. What is Soweto TV doing at 251 - not that I watch it. But WHY?

Surfing this morning made me a little bit dizzy.

AND:
On the website is Compact and Compact Plus?
Are you (DStv) trying to tell us something. Yes, I am looking at the DStv South Africa page.

I hope there will be more Sports Channels on Compact Plus otherwise take it and shove it and so forth.
