There is a new HD PVR being launched with only 2 lnb inputs. View one, record one. The info is finally confirmed

More info can be found here http://www.dstv.com/dstvsa/content/en/dstvsa/hd_faqs#2

30. The new HD PVR model (HD PVR 2P) has been been launched in time for the World Cup Soccer. In order to meet these timelines, two functions available on the original HD PVR were temporarily omitted. These are the ability to set series recordings and the ability to use the DStv ON DEMAND catchup service. As soon as these two features have been developed they will be automatically downloaded to your PVR’s without you having to do anything. We expect these features to become available before the end of 2010.

38. What installation is required for the HD PVRs?
The original HD PVR model has 4 tuners and requires a four wire installation, ie. the minimum requirement is a twin LNB. The HD PVR 2P has 2 tuners and requires a two wire installation, ie. the minimum requirement is a twin LNB. MultiChoice recommends that installation of the HD PVR is done by a DStv Accredited Installer. To find an accredited installer in your area, SMS your postal code to 33936 (SMS costs R1.50)

The new small HD PVR does work off a single lnb, however you will loose all recording capability if using a single cable. You can still pause live TV though. This is using a normal single lnb in input 1, that's it. Multichoice will not admit that this works but it does. Do not listen to people in this thread telling lies that it does not work or that you will loose channels. It is NOT true, they have no clue, you can watch all channels including HD but can't record while viewing. Further, the TV guide may only display the next 2 shows.

FULL GUIDE TO SINGLE LNB, YOU WILL FIND ALL INFO YOU NEED ON FIRST PAGE

Well one of the MC admins just closed a thread on the DSTV forums that was about a new decoder but I think it was more due to the fact that the specs the poster referenced were ridiculously inaccurate.

Anything under 2k and I'll finally upgrade, provided it has PVR functionality.

What do you need to change to do this? I still have the old (non PVR) decoder. Will getting the HD decoder be enough or do you need to do something with the dish, etc.

I need an HD decoder, no dish, for around 2k!!!!!!!!!!

It's definitely coming... pretty sure Multichoice confirmed this themselves late last year though.. so not quite news?

You can be sure being Multichoice, it will, 1. Still only be single view (allowing the extra R65 fee for additional view.) 2. Barely be an improvement an the existing (despite the 2 year wait on it)

Well if all you want is HD content, then the decoder is just fine. However, if you want PVR functionality, you will need to replace the LNB as well.

Wow. Sexy and sleek.
Doesn't look like it should be cheaper though, to be honest. It looks more expensive.

Do you know if it is possible to get the HD signal using a single LNB? I just want an HD decoder for worldcup and SS. I don't care about PVR, TV guide or anything else on DSTV

Do you have any idea what this costs? I assume I need an installer to do this...

Is this correct, looks like quite a nice unit ? Only two tuners, but that is all that I want - could be interested in this unit !

Me too, I'm signed up in one min if cost is around 2k and it only need a single lnb with splitter :-)

What the heck do you need more for though? The SATCR LNB is able to split a single cable into 4 separate virtual links.

And yes, you can get HD content with a single-view LNB.
