New DSTV HD Decoder

so is this a single view hd pvr??

Looks like it, one tuner for viewing, and one for recording. Exactly what I want, and it looks sexy too :D

Someone has heard my wishes.

Now, what is the price, and when can I get it !

Oh, and what is the RF quality like ?

No one knows yet, we're trying to find out :-)

See they say "...... the DSR4828 offers additional capacity through external hard-disk drive support". - Wonder if this will actually work? (Just like USB on SD PVR is still not working?)

Further they say "A full interconnectivity suite supports various home-theatre options and network devices". - What do you think this will mean?

HDMI, optical audio output, S/PDIF and componant probably. Nothing special

Do you have any idea what this costs? I assume I need an installer to do this...
Well it's difficult to say. Theoretically, installing it yourself is fairly simple. All you need to do is ensure that the rotation is correct.
As for cost, there are some cheap options available but I always recommend the SATCR LNB (about R1k) as this doesn't require having to run a second cable from the dish to the decoder.

What do you need to change to do this? I still have the old (non PVR) decoder. Will getting the HD decoder be enough or do you need to do something with the dish, etc.

All you have to do is buy a 2 into 6 splitter for the cables comming from you LMB and then you can do extraview with both decoders

thats inly if your current decoder is dual view or else you will need to upgrade your LMB

MIH have mentioned this before, it will not be a PVR - same as all the other decoders from MIH, the usb port will be disabled probably.

What do you mean, according to the specs it has a built-in 500GB 3.5" hard disk ?

..and the pace had decent software on before MIH loaded their crappy open-tv software. They'll probably remove it. What I'm saying is they intimated that a non PVR HD decoder will be available soon. This was last year sometime even before the release of the UEC HD.
But it is a nice looking machine.

I really hope that whatever decoder is released has the option to increase PVR storage space via USB... that would be awesome, especially if more HD channels are added in the future, 50 hours will run out quickly.

So any news on:
PRICE?
AVAILIBILITY? (Before the world cup?)

and if i understand correctly...
only major difference to older HDPVR's is.... RECORD 1 instead of 2?

Seems to be the case. No price or rollout schedule as yet.
I'm still waiting on confirmation as to whether it's going to be the UEC one in the link or a separate Pace model.

Let us know asap when you find anything out - I'm keen on that UEC, it's perfect for me, WITH the 500GB hard disk.

BTW, that's hardware, can't see them pulling that out - it's not like disabling a USB port !

They also have good RF on the bigger model, so it should be OK on this. RF is bad on the Pace.

I suspect that the UEC in the link is purely a replacement of the existing HD-PVR and NOT the cheaper single-view decoder that everybody is talking about.
