New DSTV HD Decoder

i have a R2000 voucher from hifi corp. i hope they get it this week.... :D
 
We were supposed to have had these already. Strikes causing issues, as stated above. We will hopefully be receiving a small shipment this week, that will have to be distributed to all our branches... no, I can't sell one to you :)
 
im situated in bloem. last two times i was at hifi corp I knew more technical details then the salesman. i only get exposed to the different products for 20mins while im inside the store and then sometimes check up on the internet, but i dont want to change the topic now...

Gimme my cheap baby HD PVR(yeah i know... but its fine for me)
 
I hope there'll be some good new deals - looking to buy a 42" sammy plasma too
 
Im not too clued up on how the LNB etc works...

If i have a single LNB and SD decoder currently and just hook that cable up to the new cheapie HD decoder, does that mean i can watch but not record?

You can record mainly on the channels, that are within the same parameters (Horizontal/Vertical), Like if you are watching Mnet SD Movie on Sunday Nite, and you want to record on MM1, MM2, at the same time that is possiblw for you to record.
But if you watch Super 14 match On SSHD and want to record something on MM1 or MM2. you will get the yellow triangle, telling you stories....this is have proven and tested. also been a victim of that circumstance :whistle:

So the Ultimate is you can record, and if you plan on doing the installation, visit BidorBuy. I remember calling difference Accredited installers, quoting me from R2500, some R3000, and there were to supply me with Twin LNB, and 2x6 MS plus installation, and i said ######. then i went to Bid or Buy.
Bought a

I did the installation myself, and you know how much i saved R1600, you know recession makes us thing wiser :)

exept if he is getting one of the new HD decoders he wont need a multi switch (if he doesnt want xtraview) only a twin lnb as the newe HD only needs 2 LNB cables
 
Looks like the transnet strike is affecting the release...

I wonder if the new decoder would run of a single LNB... Basically just to watch HD channels, no recording xtra view or anything...

it might work if its anything like the current one you can fool it into booting by using puting in by using a spliter to split your LNB cable, of course it defeats the purpose as you will only be able to recrd certain chanels in the same boquet yuo will be watching

The sole purpose of getting the decoder for me is the watch the world cup in HD. I could not care less about PVR, I just want a nice HD signal for the games. Otherwise I refuse to watch shows and movies in 4:3 format which came out a year ago in the US in any case so there's absolutely nothing to record for me :-). Can one still watch HD of a single LNB with a "tricked" current HD decoder?

Ja Neh, thats a wiser idea, perhaps for EPG, as they said that with the current ones Tuner 4 is for EPG, before upgrading to my current system set up, i used 1x4 way splitter, it worked well.
 
The new one will work perfectly with just 1 input on tuner 1. You just wont be able to record. Tuner 1 carries live TV & EPG, and the decoder boots up with just tuner 1 connected

not 100% sure but will be in HD with 1 LNB as the other cables are for recording etc
they should realy release a no record HD, you not the first person on this forum that wants one

That sounds like music in my ears. Within 2 weeks the price of being able to simply watch the games in HD went from R5600 for the old PVR (quote I got for installation +HD PVR in my place, rather complicated one) to R2000.

I would if I only could. I am living in an apartment complex with a communal dish. There's no free second lnb so an amplified splitter needs to be installed on another lnb. Then I would have to pull a 40m cable through the walls and floors to my apartment. Even though that makes it more complicated I still wouldn't mind doing it myself, if they only let me. Has to be done by an accredited installer apparently...

I have a friend too that is limited by the strict rules imposed on him by his landlord.
Certain security complexes won't allow 'your own personal dish setup' and hence you're forced to run off a mutiswitch.
This decoder would at least allow him to enjoy HD... but obviously the ideal would be PVR-less HD decoder!

Exactly my point, they quoted you R5600, while the decoder price is R3000 thats means R2600 was doing installation, which R300 Twin LNB, R400 2x6 Multi Switch (that measn, R1900 was for wiring) thats too pricey, can you imagine, how are people being ripped off, i guess they caught that Vision, Mission from MC. thats what they are.....Imagine Paying for rewinding and pausing, something that comes standard with the decoder, imagine how much money would Sony & Samsung be making with all their DVD players if they applied the same principle... I dearly hate MC with PAssion....what a waste.
 
Hii All.

I plan to get the new SatCR lnb.. That way no messy cables as I already have a standard installation.
Im just waiting for the NEw HD Decoder..
Will I be able to still watch HD and record with the SatCR lnb.
