New DSTV HD Decoder

Dear Multichoice,

I too like some of the others here went to Hi-fi this morning to get my UEC decoder! Three stores later (and three fights later - one of which got heated and I threw the pamphlet at thge useless salesman who insisted that I am indeed saving R1000), I realised that I should just settle for the "baby" PVR.

I reckon there were PLENTY of HIFI-CORP sales okes getting it today. They seriously messed up the whole special!!! What a FAIL!

Dear Multichoice,

F@#k you and your billing system!

The end.

I had an old SD decoder, so I had to get a full-on installation done with some weird looking new LNB (there's like 3 outputs on it but only runs a single cord for my setup!?!?). So I can't really answer if you it'll work on a single LNB - for those who queried.

For a moment I was happy, despite the frustrating morning I'd had, only to hear the dumb shytes can't accept new subscriptions! AAAARRRrrrgggg!

Anyway, to add some value to this post, the baby PVR does look quite cool, very compact (which is a big plus) and the software seems to be responsive (well I actually just have a blank screen at the moment) but yeah.

End of rant

if you dont mind me asking, how much did a full installation cost?

The problem is that they're not at all apologetic about it! I could not deal with it. They wouldn't admit to making a mistake! Damn fools!

+1

I too, work on the sorry system. If I get a sorry I'll be on my way. No sorry and you have a serious problem on your hands!

Yip, I did see the dude select SATCR under network setup. So there aren't any benefits at all?

Well the SATCR only needs one cable running to the decoder whereas a dual lnb would need a splitter to send cables to all 4 inputs at the back of the decoder. The SATCR is one cable plugging in to one input and has the same functionality. Less cables but more expensive

I don't get it ? Why are people pissed off ?

They messed up and you get the 3k decoder for 2k ?

They dont , some just got lucky. They advertised wrong. Some peeps got the full one, others the small one

They were giving out pappa HDPVRs for that price

Sure, that is a bargain, but it was an error !

At HiFi Corp Woodmead they were selling the Pappa UEC for R2999 ! I politely declined and got the Baby - it's fine for me, and plugs straight in (I have a dual LNB from my DualView).

The point is that the Pappa at R2 999 and the Baby at R1 999 are not bargains, that just normal RRP.

That's why I say that HiFi Corp had no specials - a few people just got lucky because they made mistakes !

Exactly right. The confusion comes from the add saying a saving of R1000 over the normal price of R2999. So yeah big mixup over at hifi crap. The add was supposed to say new baby HD PVR at R1999, thats all.

Must have been a noob who handed me the daddy hd pvr and took it to the till and said to the cashier R1999

Hmmm... pity the new Baby Pace HD-PVR only has Composite or HDMI for video... I was hoping it would also have Component Video, for older CRT or Plasma sreens :(

It looks like the new Baby UEC will, but who knows when that will be released...

Yes, that is correct.

I have an older plasma with DVI (no HDCP) and component - I had to buy a little adapter with HDMI (HDCP) on the one side and component on the other. I bought this for the PS3, but it will also work for the Baby Pace.

R529 is premium subs + R65 PVR fee you already pay for the SDPVR, so there will be no increase in subs. The R65 includes PVR functions, HD & Xtraview whether you use all 3 or not

So to run an SD+HD PVR will be R625/m? and then I can watch 2 SD 1 HD and record 1 SD and 1 HD channel at a time? And other than the R2000 for the decoder how do I go about setting them up to run concurrently. Sorry for being such a noob on the topic.
