New DSTV HD Decoder

Got my Baby HD PVR installed and setup on Sat , working very well. Total cost including new Twin LNB , cables and installation was just under R3 000.

Always have a look at the first page, I am posting all new info there. I was one of the first people to get the new HD PVR, I was one of the first to find out that it was being released. I have it running off a single lnb and I know what it going on:

The new small HD PVR does work off a single lnb, however you will loose all recording capability if using a single cable. You can still pause live TV though. This is using a normal single lnb in input 1, that's it. Multichoice will not admit that this works but it does. Do not listen to people in this thread telling lies that it does not work or that you will loose channels. It is NOT true, they have no clue, you can watch all channels including HD but can't record while viewing. Further, the TV guide may only display the next 2 shows.

I will test the new HD decoder using a splitter during the next few days. This should give extra functinality including a better TV guide and some recording functionality (but not full).

GUIDE TO SINGLE LNB IS COMING SOON

No, it works with a single lnb. I have neither a SATCR nor a network setup. Stop telling lies

I did not say it would not work at all, so Tim the toolman taylor, with your single LNB, do you have all functionality ie: all channels and record?

1. You are using SATCR
2. Or you live in a complex with a communial dish that has been setup with a network setup, ie: you have to setup networks 2 - 6 on your decoder to move all horizontal channels to vertical.

And you must be related to that guy that paid R9k for his package deal!

Read what I have been posting. You can watch all channels, including HD but you cannot record. A splitter will give some extra but not full functionality, a will post a detailed test at the end of the week. Some of us are not after recording, we only want HD.

I only checked your post now about your setup/testing, but was i telling lies..???

Your reply was in response to:
So please explain how i'm watching ALL channels via single LNB? ie. both Vertical and Horizontal!

Your answer:

2. Or you live in a complex with a communial dish that has been setup with a network setup, ie: you have to setup networks 2 - 6 on your decoder to move all horizontal channels to vertical.

Fact is:
No SATCR, no network setup. Just a single lnb with one cable, all channels

i'm assuming you responding to Tim's post...
Both i and Tim have single LNB... and working fine!

I have tested this at more than one location with the same result. In an apartment complex with no network setup, in a house with single lnb and in a house with dual lnb but only one lnb connected. All with the same result, you can watch all channels but can't record.

Well i am doing the install myself and paying about 4-5k max for all the parts. There is so much info on mybb its so easy to do a self-install

Unfortunately, no-one had the time, and the way the house is designed made it a very difficult job.

Like i said, i only noticed you posts now about your situation, i should have read the entire thread before posting, my apologies.
I know that with a single LNB you will not have full functionality, unless its SATCR or MUD.

This is what i was on about, when you say yours and Tims works fine on a single LNB, i assumed you meant 100% functionality, you know what they say about assumptions right.:o

No problem, some of us can't afford, don't want to pay for or simply don't have the option to do a dual lnb install. This is why we are reporting on the exact functionality of the new HD decoder using a single lnb

Yes and no, multichoice denies it, installers deny it too. But it works. Probably because they want to make the extra money...
Just to confirm, they don't deny its possible. They just dont test decoders with incomplete installations, so obviously won't say it works if they haven't tested it themselves

When I phoned they denied it. I explicitly ask if the new decoder will boot and receive channels from a single lnb. I was told no, you cannot use it at all. I asked, are you sure, they said yes! Same story when I asked an installer
