New DSTV HD Decoder

No, mine just showed VER on tuner 1....tuner 2 was blank....

as I've mentioned, it picks up that there is a firmware upgrade, but when it starts with the upgrade, it bombs out after a couple of minutes with and error message and subsequently reboots...

If tuner 2 shows blank there is a problem with your splitter or cables. I also had that issue, try switching the cables around (on the splitter). Make sure you get signal on tuner 1 and 2, both on same polarisation, then the update will work. The problem you are having now is that that the decoder refuses to update with one cable. However, since you have one cable plugged in it allows it to upgrade, but then there is no signal on tuner 2 (which it requires) so the update fails. Once you have signal on both tuners (even off single lnb) the update will work!

I am very very happy with the "Baby" decoder but has anybody else found, when switching from stand by, an E143-4 error message sits on the screen for sometimes 10 secs or even 20 secs before picture displays.
HD Pace (4 Tuner) Primary - HD Pace (2 Tuner) Secondary.

That happens because its waiting for a heartbeat signal for Xtraview, a signal gets sent from the primary every 30 seconds

Issue on the RF out

Are you feeding the HD Pace (4 Tuner) RF from the HD Pace (2 Tuner),
because I have seen some issues with about 5 different decoders.
It seems that there is a problem with the comms on the RF out of the HD Pace (2 Tuner). The input RF comms if fine though. Took the decoder back to Multichoice and they couldnt come right after testing multipule boxes.

This imposes some serious limitations on the use of the following common combination:
HD Pace (2 Tuner) + SD PVR + IR TV links (for SD PVR)

Smurfatefrog answered my question "wating for heartbeat" because in my case full functionality of both HD decoders are fine with HD Pace (4 tuner) RF IN + HD Pace (2 tuner) RF Out. secondary decoder is not hanging just waiting for XV instruction (Heartbeat)

so is the general consensus that the baby HD is worth it?

100% for me. It is the perfect compliment to my SD-PVR and worth the R2700 it cost me including installation. I love it!

i upgraded to the baby today (from 1110) everything works fine, but getting an e107-4 error.
Anyone know what this means?
Called the call centre and they cant seem to fix it...
frustrating

I was getting the same error during the activation. Had to reset the decoder and the guy at the call centre had to reload something couple of times. Few minutes later it went away.

I have tested this at more than one location with the same result. In an apartment complex with no network setup, in a house with single lnb and in a house with dual lnb but only one lnb connected. All with the same result, you can watch all channels but can't record.

Invest in a R57 splitter and 2 x R20 Cables and enjoy recording as well!!

thanks, they finally sorted it out, about 4 hours after my first call...

Anyway, got everything running, and as per this thread, using a single LNB + splitter to get PVR as well.

now just need to decide on which LCD to get??

Still loving my Baby decoder. No complaints, and so far, no errors like others are describing (knock on wood).

Question 1: What purpose does the Ethernet port on the back serve?

Question 2: Anyone know what Multichoice's plan for World Cup is? I've read that 2 of the 4 dedicated channels will be HD. Does this mean we will have two NEW ones giving us FIVE in total? Or does it just mean that they will use MNET HD and SSHD for some games?

Nothing at the moment - it's disabled. But I really wish multichoice could us it for the heartbeat in an extraview environment - that would make life much easier!

We are getting 1 more HD channel for sport and this extra channel will play all the games, with the existing channel airing other 2010 games when there are 2 matches at the same time.

Thanks for the reply flashsa.

Was hoping you were gonna say that I could browse to my PVR from my PC and pull my recorded programming. :P (I know, wishful thinking!)

Good news about the new channel, do you know if we can expect it to stick around AFTER the WC?

I asked that question on the DSTV Forum on their site - and MC said they will put the second Supersport HD channel to sleep after the world cup until August, when there is "exciting news to be announced" (Quoted from them)

So it looks like it might stick around from august....... there is more than enough content for 2 HD sport channels so I am hoping this happens.....

EDIT: My case in point was that Supersport aired a soccer friendly on the SS-HD channel while the Springbok rugby game was on - and I am pretty darn sure that their international feed (although very poor with lots of break-up) was in full HD.

What I can't understand is - have 3 HD Sport channels. If there is minimal live sport on then just switch off the extra 2 channels with a fixed banner until more content is available. Right now we are having to miss HD sport because they only have 2 channel active (case in point - Roland Garos took higher priority over the PGA golf on the weekend). The other 2 channels would only chew bandwidth when they are actually broadcasting live sport.

It's always been a DSTV strategy to give the viewers a slice at a time instead of the whole cake!

how much extra do you pay monthly for the hd pvr?
I have an sd-pvr and want to get the baby hd pvr today/tomorrow, wondering how much extra I will have to pay excluding the cost of the new decoder and the installation.
