New Ford EcoSport

i test drove the 1.0 Ecoboost this morning. that 1l 3 cyl engine is absolutely amazing. my subaru is killing me with petrol consumption. thinking of buying the ecosport.

I've started to warm up to a smaller SUV instead of the ix35, Kuga etc. I'm looking into the 1l EcoBoost or the 1.5Diesel. I'm going to test drive over the weekend.

Sigh, why do people think buying a new car is a good way to save money on fuel?!

Not a big prices difference between them, so I dont have to do the REAL costs on the petrol vs diesel again :p
 
I see people are boasting about the 1.5 Diesel...it is the model which puts out the least power. Then comes the 1.5 Petrol and then the model with the most power is the 1l Ecoboost.

Once someone has actually driven all 3 of them could you provide some feedback?

My gut feel tells me the 1.5D is perfect for mostly town driving. The 1.0l is great for town and long distance.
 
Went around to Ford during my lunch to have a look at this car. It is smaller than traditional SUVs, but perfect for me. I'm currently driving a 1.4 Polo and I'm desperate for some extra boot space.

I'm going back to the dealer with my husband, and then I'll do a test drive. They only had the 1.5l petrol on the floor.

The 1.5l is the automatic with hill assist. But the engine looks a bit outdated

But it (diesel) has the most torque and the lowest fuel consumption according to wikipedia.
 
I quite like this car but, at R240 000 or whatever, I would rather cough up a bit more and get the Fiesta ST.

Torque is not worth much trying to overtake a truck on the N1. That is unfortunately the problem. You need that extra power to give you a boost when your are already driving at 120km/h.
 
Put it this way, if you trying to overtake a truck going 120km/h, in this car... you got balls :D ... And they did pitch this car as a city car more than highway cruiser.....
 
Anyone know where I can test drive the ecosport in Pretoria. Tried a few dealerships but no one has stock. I was however able to view one that came for a service.

My observations

It is smaller than I expected. Seats are comfortable. Full size spare tyre is a good thing. The boot is short but have a lot of height. It feels small, but it is bigger than most b class vehicles. The problem is that you will have to stack things to use the boot. A good after market product will be a shelf to allow usage of the height. Great clearance is great.

It seems the diesel and 1.0 petrol are the most popular

It is definitely a city car and for weekend away. Won't recommend it for a family of 4 with holiday luggage, unless you add a towbar
 
you'd think it will be a bigger than a std fiesta, but it is basically a raised fiesta. which is not a bad thing at all, some of the plastics inside are (very) slightly more plastic y than on the fiesta, but all in all a very decent car. I want one

I tested the 1.0 at Metro Auto Voortrekkers Road on Saturday. Agree with you observations. That engine is totally beyond believe. Almost feels like a diesel - no need to change gears all the time.

Will probably place my order within the next few days. :D
