New Gigabyte x58 Board DEAD!?

Okay so 2 weeks ago a got a completely bought a new setup. Only switched on today because of waiting for my psu. Pluged in everything carefully and only connected the mains to the psu once I was done. Started the baby up.. and all I get is running fans nothing else is my board faulty or did I go and blow it like a idiot?

The only logical explanation to me is that it is the board. Tested 2 gfx cards and swoped around the new ram. Still nothing. Any help guys?

Yes I did Pada after a few tries I checked all the connectors properly. Still have no clue to whats going on.

Havent tried the speaker yet, just have the parts all naked on my desk. The hard drives do power up but im not even getting into the bios the screen just stays in power saving mode.

Is the ESD from touching it enough to cause a short? CPU is highly improbable. Got three sticks of ram tried all 3 in different slot combinations rules them out. It's just my psu im unsure about. Its out of the box new, only weird thing i noticed is that the psu switch does not work at all. But don't think it can be related. Only prob is I don't have another socket 1366 cpu to test it with and my other power supplies all have the old 4pin cpu connetors so cant rule it out.

What PSU switch are you talking about?

Could you perhaps give some model numbers of the PSU, RAM, CPU, motherboard & graphics card that you are trying to use?

Connecting the motherboard speaker might give you POST beep codes, which you can then lookup.

Double check your mobo connectors ie. Power, reset, hd etc. You may have mixed this up.

if the power switch doesn't work then how do the HDD spin? Are the mobo jumpers correct? And not set to reset?

The 4 pin connector will work. You don't NEED an 8 pin connector to make it boot up.

It's the mobo dude. The quickest way to solve your problem, is just to take it back. Luckily you didn't build everything into the case yet.

shhhh.. Dammit! Noob test 101. Now you've gone and ruined it..

That said, I've seen people take a file to a PCI-E card card cause it wouldn't fit, and the metal bits looked like you could remove them.. Or, someone cut a new slot in a DIMM, just because it wouldn't fit - They just had to put it in the other way.

Try another PSU. Even if the fans spin up & lights come on the PSU can still be faulty. Had a few of those before.

Okay my setup is as follows. Cpu = i7 950, ram = 3x 2gb sticks ddr3 1333mhz, gfx = 2x gtx 460 1gb's and a corsiar hx850 psu. (The non working switch is the one on the actual power supply.)

Try another PSU. Even if the fans spin up & lights come on the PSU can still be faulty. Had a few of those before.

Touch wood I've never had this issue, if a power supply died on me it was always completely buggered!

Tried this last night, at first I thought it had to do with the sli setup. So I only have one gpu connected along with the other essencials, is it safe to try a 4pin cpu connector on my 8pin board to try and rule out the psu?
