I assume you are running the tweeters directly from the radio? Have you tried to change the treble or maybe "fade" it more to the rear?

The tweeters are running off the amp. I have tried treble settings as well as fading it, they are still very harsh.
If they are running of the amp, then you need to change the settings on the amp. Are they on their own channel?
BTW, this is the one I got with my car.

Na I have tried all different settings. That's a nice one you got.
I don't like the beeping when you turn it off. My mom's sony does it as well.

You can switch the beeping off in the menu.

I feel your pain! Had a Panasonic frontloader which hada bright blue dislay that I found very distracting! Luckily it hada flip down face so I used to just drop it down at night! Sound quality was really good, paid over R1500 for it but ended up selling it for R500 and bought a Kenwood frontloader for R1000 because it had a very dim red display which is much better.
Pity you didn't like the Pioneer, I always preferrred the Pioneer head units to most other brands.
btw, I couldn't find this setting. There is a beeping option to turn off, but it isn't the one I was talking about.

In the end though I decided to go for this:
It has 4v preouts so I don't need to turn my gains up so much.
Also the screen is a 4 line display so that's pretty cool.
The lights can change from green to red or blue as well.
I suppose it's quite blingy but I like it.
Where did you get this one from? I am also looking for it, but the prices I find are like R2k.
