Can't say.. I don't have one yet.. But will make sure I get one that is UV stabilized.. would like to think that you could get 10 years at least, assuming no other damage is done to it..

yes... BUT this is 8 years after the fact... they are now my problem I could go after the seller but would cost me more time and money than 32k...
 
I’ve seen those solid covers start to sag in the middle over time. This is also contributed due to heavy rains and over time it loses it tension/firmness. Eventually it sags so much it actually creates a pool of water, on the cover over the pool, which is also dangerous.

Imo, get a good quality net with the smallest squares on the net so kids feet won’t go through.

As suggested in my previous post, have a look at Aquanet. I have this at my place for about +/-8 years. It’s still fine.

Lastly, never leave the kid unsupervised around the pool.
 
Jussss i fscking hate pools since I became a father.

First thing is to teach them to swim. That takes away half the worries. Then obviously keep both your eyes on the pool at all fscking times.

I shiit in my pants if i rock up at a friends place for a braai or a kuier and the kids are swimming and I have my boys with me. HTF do you say no you cannot swim now while all their friends are swimming? That is part my own fault cause my boys can not swim propper yet. So it ends up with me not being able to join the braai having to stand by the pool and constantly grab my little one by the arm as he sinks to the bottom having slipped of the pool steps.

I have lost count how many times this has happened. And then all the other parents are like no man leave them they are fine we have an eye on them. Ja fok.

Like I said my own fault.

I hear you. Once they can swim, it reduces the risk drastically, but you still have to watch them anyways, for example my 2 older ones swim like fish, but the middle one was pulled down by another random kid at the bottom of a slide pool.

I was close by, but at that moment was talking to my wife, luckily the older one grabbed him and gave the kid some lip.

Since then I follow them like a fly in resort pools, and even when we visit friends, I always grab a chair, a beer and I sit watching the kids swim (the other parents appreciate it as well) - need to actually get a yellow shirt and red swimming shorts..

When my kids were little I had the pool net off while cleaning the pool and they were playing next to the pool. One of them fell in, just a couple of metres away so non issue, grabbed a leg and pulled them out. What was a shocker though was that they made no noise. No screaming or splashing about, just a single small splash on the way in and then sunk.
I was vigilant to begin with but took extra care after that.

I had a similarish experience with my niece while we were at a rented holiday home.

I was literally watching her play with my boys, they were shooting each other with water-guns, she was walking backwards, and "ploop", in she fell, no noise or shouting.

I immediately ran to her and yanked her out, will never forget the shock on her face and how big her eyes went under water, don't want to think of what would have happened if I wasn't there.

Luckily we always had a parent watching at the pool while we stayed there, there was no fence or net, so that was the only option.
