New Hyundai Accent

Being launched tonight I hear, getting back to my question which one is a better buy i20 or the new Accent.

I prefer the look of the new Accent personally. Plus the i20 has been out for a few years now and this is a brand new design.

All depends on price and spec level though
 
The Accent 1.6 GLS is R157000. I wanted to get the i20 on Sat, but then I saw the Accent, its higher spec and slightly cheaper than the 1400 i20.

That's like saying, Golf or Polo, Focus or Fiesta, Civic or Jazz... It's always worth the extra, but only if you can afford it.

I'm pretty sure it does not have cruise control. Bluetooth is cool though. They would definitely need to upgrade and facelift the i20 soon, because they are undercutting themselves.
 
Driving a new 1.6 Accent now as a rental, and I must say its gearbox is lovely and has a solid drive, but it's seriously lacks power. You have to drop down gears to make it up any hills (here in JHB) and the interior is made from what feels like real cheap plastic.

Other than that, it's quite a nice car.

I didn't really feel a lack of power but I'm quite a sedate driver lol.

The real negetive of this car is the interior quality. However, it's right up there compared to others in the price range (read Polo Vivo - really stipped down). The Elantra's interior is a notch up but I can think of other things I can do with R58 000 at this point in my life... unfortunately :)
 
Cars aren't much different to any other product. Once you decide to buy it they come with all the extras not included in the list price.

They tell you about the upgrade to a maintenance plan, the extended warranty which includes electrical and mechanical failure, and also the insurance you can take out againts scratches less the 25 cm. These are all optional though.

Then, on the final price, an amount of R 3306 extra for the licensing & registration, numberplates, carpets, but they will include smash and grab film for that price (they don't quite give you the option of not taking the S&G). O yes, the PDI (pre delivery inspection) is also included in this. I imagined the PDI as being part of the car's sale?

Anyway, I think it's good value for money. Drives nicely, but the steering takes some getting used to. It's a "Motor Driven Power Assisted Steering system"

Are you sure you are driving the new Accent? It uses the same 91Kw 1.6l gamma engine as the i20, i30, Cerato etc that definitely does not lack in power, it is class leading. Compare it say to the 77Kw Polo (LOL). Maybe you just need to learn how to drive it, Korean & Japanese engines produce their power at higher revs compared to VW.

Definitely driving the 1.6. Only 3500km on the clock... Initial pull away in 1st and 2nd is nippy but seriously lacks torque from 3rd onwards. Even 2nd needs a heavy foot to get the car moving at speed. Higher revs don't seem to give it any magical power,
But it is definitely eager enough for day-to-day use.
