New Iburst Acc Type

I would be keen for something like this. Most of the times that I go over my cap is when a new linux distro comes out. If I could get the ISO's without my download timing out (as regularly happens at 64k) then I would be happy.

Count me in, for R150 or (mebbe a R100?) extra its a bargain:). My 1Gig last me about 10 days just browsing.

don't be a d!ck Azimuth. Some of us IT enthusiasts like to try new software (and there are always trial versions). This is how we keep on top of new developments and make informed decisions on what software and or games we would be prepared to purchase. Take for example Windows 7, if we want to trial it and not just one version, both X86 & X64, thats already 0ver 5 gigs. Then multiply that by the number of beta builds + RC versions.... get the picture.

You'll notice I was responding to Jagtiger, who specifically mentioned "music, movies, games". See?

Also, lolol, I'm female.

sorry .... then let me rephrase, "don't be a p...y" ooh thats just rude - lol :D. But anyway, some people actually buy music and movies online. maybe not him, but hey thats his deal ;).

In some kind piracy and not piracy. There is free music, TV channels online and games (frequently online games, like Lineage, that takes few gigs). But also people download pirated stuffs.

I'll pay an extra R150 if the throttled speed is increased to 128k.
+1
This is a great idea.
The problem I have though is that the 64k throttle doesnt really seem like 64k. Downloads average at 7kB/s, sure, but if i'm browsing it will burst at like 30K/s and then as soon as the throttling kicks in, it baisically freezes - Pages will half-load for example, and then I have to refresh and hope it loads fully the next time.
So I'd actually rather pay an extra R50 and have a proper 64kbps after-cap service than pay R150 for a 128kbps service. The current after-cap system is pretty unusable except for applications requiring quick bursts of small amounts of data, like IRC or SSH :/

I seem throttled as I do get +/-1mbps but I get the random freeze up of iBurst, which forces me to redownload those no resume downloads, not download and browse at the same time, or contemplate that switching to ADSL makes more since I'm getting it next month.

I'm intrigued. Are you guys saying that iBurst holds value as a service because of the 64kbps restriction after the cap ?

Is the 64kbps actually "good enough" that it warrants the service ? Do you get your 64bkps? If it was more 64k'ish without (the lag/weird drops) would that be more usable ?

Would something like a permanent 128kbps connection make sense from a cost perspective if (let's say) it was twice the price of the regular 1G/64kbps account ?

If the system/capping software they use cant maintain a 64kbps connection based the signal quality - will a 128kbps work or will it be a step to the uncapped world?

Answer to Rodent

Absolutely, There are data restricted packages from all the providers out there and there are top end uncapped ADSL packages. The technology Iburst uses is dated so competing with ADSL or 3g on their ground isn't going to work. The only unclaimed space out there right now is a low spec uncapped account, for those who want no restrictions but dont care if they download 100mb in 3 hours as opposed to 10min. The low spec'ed accounts shouldn't jam up their network so this should be a no brainer. I only use Iburst cause they throttle and dont cap, if it werent for this I would use 3g.

I think most people on smaller packages will agree to the R150 extra pm but I'm on a 5Gig (R599) package and won't be paying an extra R150. That's a bit to much for me.

I would rather like to see a bigger cap increase at the same price.

Okay, this thread is now on its 3rd page already...

But is this really going anywhere???

Is the "upto 128K" something that Iburst might impliment??, or is everyone just getting their hopes high :))

Haven't seen many responses from Iburst (besides the response to the 1st post on page1)

Lets 1st see what Iburst has to say :-)

Shaun please respond

Shaun please respond, we need to know if anything like this could actually happen. Or give us an idea of what you have in the pipeline. Please take a look at my previous post for justification.

hi all

the guys at Product are at the investigation point with this request.

I will keep you informed as soon as I get word.

Thanks

Hey iBurst rep.

Now, I will admit that I do have a neotel phone. I do also have an iburst account. Now honestly, when it comes to price per gig, neo wins hands down, but I still have my trusty iBurst modem. I'm also a gamer, and I'm sure if you contact the guys down in iGame, all of them know me.

Anyway, here's the point. I spam lotsa games, so I generally chew all my cap on cod. When I'm capped, i simply cant join the server because it takes 6mins to dl the map and then join, by which time the map has changed. I would willingly pay R200 extra for 128kb/s international increase in speed when capped, but I would also love it if you threw into it an extra 256kb/s on local usage. It would just make life much easier. Go ask the iGame guys for an IP sheet. Atleast 40% of everyone on the iGame servers are iBurst users. Games are so far the main thing that is keeping you going with us that have 3g/neotel and iBurst. Latencies are great and you throttle, not cap. A winning formula, if you ask me.
