New Internet-connected DStv decoder planned

I really question why the pvr came out with an ethernet port if it wasn't meant to be used? What was the point then, to justify the price? It just shows how these people take us for ride by selling us things we might never use, even if we wanted to...

They are standard model PVRs that come with ethernet, USB, SATA etc. They are manufactured and used by various Pay TV networks, it would've cost DSTV more to request a specially modified version to be manufactured

I remember even the old m-net decoders came out with Ethernet ports... it never got used...

The reason they want internet access is to create a back channel for anti-piracy, spying and marketing.

That was my first thought as well.

Pretty moot point for me anyhow, my ADSL falls in the not-even-remotely-average-nevermind-fantastic category. Plus I'd loath to give Multichoice any more of my money.
