While I am busy trying to sort out why I get dropped so much while playing BF3 on Afrihost (I've tested other ISPs and don't have this problem), I have decided to get a few gigs from another ISP. I am avoiding any ISP that might resell IS bandwidth (I think Afrihost buys from them) and am thinking about the following ISPs:

Mweb - R79 for 3 gigs with 10 gig local, sweet! Wait, R200 per gig out of bundle charges?
WA - Decent pricing but not sure if they sorted out their billing issues?
Cybersmart - Also decent pricing, but they still have their weird T&Cs

Any suggestions on who I should go with?

Personally I found my do broadband package from telkom works the best out of the four of five ISP's I've tested for BF3 on my PS3.

I would suggest Web Africa. Especially considering the fact that the only servers that get most of the players are the WAGE ones and the FreeZone is awesome ;)

I was using the openweb gold package and had the same problems with all 3 backbones they were running on. I swapped to mweb uncapped and not 1 disconnect since.

I'm on Mweb Uncapped and its smooth as well.. I have had the occasional black screen crash when the map is changing, maybe 2 or 3 times in the last week. Thats it.

but isn't Mweb uncapped, shaped?? how does a shaped account do against a capped, unshaped account for gaming, especially console gaming?

I don't play any MP on console, so I can't say - maybe someone else can answer, but as far as the shaped bit, I'm guessing the the gaming traffic is not shapped, only torrents and such. And even then, the shaping is pretty lax - I'm averaging 150-200 gig a month.

I can't see ingame ping in BF3, but in battlelog, the pings to servers are usually between 20-50. In black-ops my pings were usually around the same (35 - 50), so I don't think the gaming is shaped.

Get 1 GB international prepaid from WA (so that Origin can log in) and play on WAGE servers for free. Should last forever. Just do your updates and whatever else through your normal account. You can set up a PPPoE dialup on your games PC (keep the router on your usual account).

Hold down ctrl alt and s to see your fps and ping.

Our clan mate has serious issues with with afrihost for some bizarre reason. I have a axxesslite account and it works very plus vb on openweb gold is solid.

I've since discovered that FNB Connect offer R25 per gig on prepaid, so I've just been using my Ebucks to buy gigs from them. It's not just BF3 however as I discovered the other day when I fired up WC3 on my Afrihost account. I was getting dropped like a hot potato until I switched over to another account.

Afrihost better get their **** together coz as much as I like my 17 gig account on special, it's pretty much useless to me if I can't game on it.

Havins same issue on Afrihost with MW3, had them check and they came back its my router or line. I tested myself and had packet loss on the IS adresses as well as very high response times and slow line speeds. so also moving when I get back from holiday.
